so, what is the new replacement now that these programs will no longer be updated. I use both of them and have no problems, but would like to find out what is going to 'pick up the slack' in the future.

... I'm sure that if you keep visiting the AD forums, you'll keep up on the latest goodise ... It looks like DVDFab Decrypter (with a little more work) might just pick up where DVD Decrypter left off ...

There's always AnyDVD - updated very frequently. Well worth the 40 bucks - imho.

i already own AnyDVD and you're right, it's worth every cent. I was wondering more from the 'compression' standpoint.

... Once the DL media becomes affordable, you won't need a compression program ...

I use CloneDVD or Nero Recode2 to encode and compress, both work well.

Why bother replacing then at this point in time?

Decrypter/Shrink combo still works fine - yet to find a movie they cannot handle.

Problem with newer movies is all the extra crap they try to include - rip with Decrypter and then use Shrink in reauthor mode to get rid of all the unnecesary crap.

Just finished Spanglish tonight - getting rid of crap files, size less that 4GB - no compression necessary.

Hello colw,

On the top of my head, here's a few DVD that gave people some trouble:

Hitch
Closer

That's it for now :)

Those have the new Sony ARccOS protection.
So unless you try to rip latest and greatest DVD, DVD Decrypter should still work for a while !

Both Hitch and Closer can be done in DVD Decrypter - for the later one - use a PSL file and there is no problem ripping that DVD.

WTF... You cant use any HTML tags in here...

... You can also rip the Sony ARccOs discs with DVD43Free running in the background while ripping with DVD Shrink

Decrypter failed to decrypt on Manchurian Candidate, gave a "brute force" error. Used DVD43 and it worked fine. Then shrunk with Shrink.

My choice of tools is Decrypt, DVD43, Shrink, and Nero to burn.

no funny protections on Manchurian Candidate (region 2 here), my trusty DVD Shrink did it fine on it's lonesome. Shrink has done 99.5% of my movies and will in future (for me) do 99.5% of my movies as i tend to buy the older films and just a few new films, i'm slowly backfilling all the films i missed buying over the years. Decrypter will obviously do the 0.5% for a while to to come, guess i coan keep an eye out for the odd PSL file along the way.

ps Tried to find where to buy Anydyd online, i can't find anything yet (i'm in UK so am very wary of buying stiff like that online, unless it's from a reputable online store)

and as fas as replacing DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink both will work for a longtime so dont give up on them just yet. BUT theres a few other programs to consider tht are really easy to use and very high quality. iam using Intervideo DVDCopy3 with AnyDVD with great success another option to is Clonedvd2 with AnyDVD and thats a package deal .both have free trials so try them out and see what you like.
