Ok, I used vcdgear to make bin/cue files into MPEG files. Now when I go into NeroVision Express 3 I add my 3 MPEG files to the list of files that are going to be burned. I rename the files to chapter 1/2/3 so that when I get into the DVD menu I know what the chapters are. Ok, so I click the next button and it says

Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a DVD, but still fits onto a DVD-9 media to record your project on.

Do you want to have the porject quality reduced automatically so that your project will fit into the available space?
If you click no the project will be expanded to DVD-9

First of all each of the files were less than 700MB so why are they coming up as more than 1GB each? I clicked no so it would fit each file into 1GB with 3GB altogether. So then it says that the quality was automatically reduced to long play (3382kbps)
So I press OK and then next again. So now I am at the edit menu section, I decided to make my own background and change the font. Alrighty, I click next now and then it gives me a sample of how it will look. I click next again. This part is where I think it is messing up, I don't know so I will just say what it says.

Your project contains more PAL than NTSC, but will be encoded in NTSC if you use the current settings. Do you want to change the settings to PAL, so that your project will be encoded in the video mode that matched the majority of the project's contents?

I click no and decide to go with the NTSC version. I wait 1hr,30min. It finally finishes so I pop it out of the DVD drive when it says done(will actually it pops it out itself). I put it in my DVD player and I get this error.

Playback Prohibited Due To Area Limitations

I have wasted 3 DVD's trying to figure this out, will someone please help me now?:(
Thanks.

I should have mentioned that I never actually burned it. I wanted to know though, if the file is PAL then it won't play on a DVD right? Thanks

If your in the US most DVD players do not play PAL. If you received that error than your player only accepts NTSC. I actually have a portable player that plays both.
I can't help you with the rest of your probelms but here's some links that should. The first 2 deal with PAL to NTSC, the last one vcdgear.

Awesome thanks man! Now I can watch my movie! I figured I shouls go with PAL automatically because it said that the majority of it was in PAL. I know better next time then.

Not a problem. Your should go with whatever your DVD player accepts.
I think (key word here) most european players accept both PAL and NTSC.

That first link actually showed the exact same issue I was having, but what's the difference between transcode and encode?

Here you go straight from AD's glossary:
Transcoding or more specifically Compressed-domain Transcoding means normally a re-encoding process that changes the video or audio features, such as resolution or bitrate, by changing parts of the a/v content, but not by reconstructing the content again (which is the case in encoding process). Compressed-domain transcoding also maintains the format of the file same as in the original file.
Encoding is opposite of decoding. Encoding means that a file, whether it is an audio, video or picture file, is compressed to another format that normally takes up less physical drive space than the previous format.

i don't know much about nerovision, other than understanding the error logs they produce.

as to the 700MB to 1GB, the MPEG files are being transformed into DVD format hence a different size.

- sounds like a region limition. What drive are you using, you could probably get region-free firmware for it so you could solve the region problem a source, ie in the drive itself, thus not having to worry about it in software

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with Nero and get the same message:

Your project contains more PAL than NTSC, but will be encoded in NTSC if you use the current settings. Do you want to change the settings to PAL, so that your project will be encoded in the video mode that matched the majority of the project's contents?

I say yes because I have a DVD player that will play both PAL & NTSC. When I try to play the dvd I can hear sound but video is frozen at first frame. I also tried the reverse and kept current setting to try to encode in NTSC and get same results; audio plays, video frozen.

I've read through the PAL to NTSC threads until my eyes are bleeding and there is so much information that is just too advanced for me. I bought a DVD player that will work with PAL so I didn't have to attempt the conversions. I'm not sure I understand how I can have a file that has both PAL and NTSC. If Nero isn't encoding properly then how do I figure out what I need to encode?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

@leryan - i don't know much of the mechanics of Nerovision, i'm more into decoding the error logs themselves and seeing what falls out the bottom. I did a search for "Your project contains more PAL than NTSC, but will be encoded in NTSC if you use the current settings" and came up with this - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/188606 - maybe see if that helps ?...

Thank you so much for your reply and I will read through the thread you suggested. I'm not sure what I did right but I used DVD Shrink to open the files made with Avi2Dvd and burned instead of using Nero directly. It works perfect in my (PAL) dvd player that I only paid $25 for so I am thrilled.

While I have you here can I ask a stupid question? When I used Avi2Dvd I get a folder with several different files: an ISO file, an M2V and another folder with the Audio_TS & Video_TS (this one I burned) Why do you get all of these and am I using the correct one for burning?

Thanks again for your help.

a-ha, i thought about asking you why you were using nerovision. I've never bought/used it as i use just burn my ripped DVD's using standard Nero Burning Rom, or convert between formats and still use standard Burning Rom.

As to Avi2Dvd i haven't used that one, however it sounds like it's giving you choices of outfile file/format. Sounds very flexible. Just noticed it caters for OGM files which is handy as i've just got hold of some OGM's. Gonna try out this Avi2Dvd and see what it's like.

Think you answered your own question re whether you'd burnt the right one :)
