Hi,
I have been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for some time now. The media I use is Sony DVD+R. I also was using Nero 6.6.10(I believe). Two of the last DVD's that actually burned were only able to play on my computer, not in my DVD Player. Then the last DVD I burned played on my computer, but very slowly. Also, did not play in my DVD player. Now, it will not burn at all. I un/re-installed DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero with the last update. That has not worked either. I went back to my copy of Nero 3.0 and installed that one after un-installing Nero 6.6.14. That didn't work either. I never receive an error after burning is complete. The only thing that happened, but is not happening anymore, is that once it was ready to burn it would say to put another DVD in the computer. It would say that it could not read: Sony DVD+R. Once I un/re-installed everything that no longer pops up. It just says that burn is complete. The DVD does not look like it was burned at all, but it does say that it is not blank either. I did try another batch of Sony DVD+R from a different case and nothing.
Sorry, this is so long, I would really appreciate help.

I'd suspect your burner. Try to uninstall and reinstall your burner.
If it still doesn't work, try to burn a CD of anything to make sure your burner is not the problem.

time to rewind i think. Let's start with the basics; download Nero info-tool from here - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/neroinfo.html

Run it, note down the following, and paste here. Here's what mine shows -

click on the drive tab, note down the name of burner and firmware version

click on configuration tab, note down the DMA fields, ie on or off

Your Nero log 'may' still be present, if it is it's in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log. If it isn't there, use Nero info-tool again and click on the floppy disc icon and save somewhere. paste the contents here

Hi Tonydco and Creaky,
I have submitted a ticket for my burner to Gateway. Creaky,I will try your suggestions as well. I am going to try to burn another DVD, I believe I totally erased all Nero info from my hard drive. So, I'll do it again and then do your suggestions. I did check my DMA also, Primary is my hard drive, DMA available- Ultra Mode 5 and Secondary is my burner, DMA available- Mode 2. I re-checked a DVD I tried to burn on and my burner recognized it as a CD. Thats when I decided to submit the ticket. Thank you both so much for your responses. I'll let you know as soon as I do everything

Hi,

I uninstalled and re-installed my driver. And now it works. I compared our settings on the Nero Info Tool. And we pretty much have the same settings, with a few exceptions. Thank you again for your help. And thank you Tonydco for your recommendation! I really appreciate it!

I have a Sony DVD burner that worked for a while, but once i upgraded to Windows XP PRO SP2, it stopped recognizing it as a DVD burner. It now sees it just as a CD drive. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drive, but that did not work. I suspect it may be the drive's firmware, but would really like an expert opinion. If anyone could help me that would be great!

I'm sorry I wasn't able to get that snapshot program. To make it easier for you to read. I did download AnyDVD, but I'm not sure if I'm using it properly. I believe it's running in the background.

- dunno why there's references to 5.5.10.56 there, hmmm.. i'd uninstall Nero, then to uninstall it completely, use Nero's Clean Tools - "http://www.nero.com/us/Clean_Tools.html " and install 6.6.0.14. DON'T install InCD/Direct CD etc, it's packet writing software that inferferes with standard Nero Burning Rom

- uninstall the Roxio software as it's notorious for conflicts with Nero; and some it looks like packet writing drivers too

Hmm also make sure you turn off clonecd as I have found it will try to access your burn drive while you are using nero. Whenever you insert a dvd or cd there is a screen that pops up prompting which function you want to do. Choose do nothing and click the tab at the bottom left of the box that says always do this ( or something like that). Had this issue and found that clonecd runs in the taskbar and tries to access the drive anytime I put in a dvd or cd. Also as stated in previous posts if you have nero delete roxio since they conflict. Also try disabling your firewall, antivirus, (after you disconnect from the internet) since they might be the source of trouble concerning the dvd that burned slow

I used Clean Tools and tried to re-download Nero. I get a message that says its expired. So, I am going to re-install my Nero 5.5 and see what happens.
