yes, they should work
I have not done many, but i did do one AVI and it worked fine.
Used Nero to burn it although that program transcodes it so it may modify it so it plays right.

Do u burn the AVI movie the way u always would by going under data file and burning it under data, or would u burn it a different way ?

to tell you the truth i forget how i did it. It has been a while.
I think i may have.
If not the only other Nero part i would have used is Nero Burning Rom
try burning rom, see if it will recognize the file and add it.
