I had dvd shrink & decrypter, plus anydvd for the trial. And it worked fine. but ever since the anydvd trial ran out. it doesn't work. it says on dvd shrink that the regions have been changed to many times. Someone on the forum told me to run convert c:/fs.ntfs, and i think every since it hasn't work, without the anydvd any way.
i have installed a new program dvd xcopy platinum & that's coming up with a error message too now. It says the disc you inserted is css encrypted. So is that because of the convertion to ntfs.
can someone please help.

looks like you got either some bum info, or have some of the terms mixed up.

I use Shrink heavily and Decypter too, though i address the problem with regions at source, ie i have region-free firmware on all of my dvd drives/burners. Let me know the name of your dvd-rom drive or burner and i will point you in the direction of region-free firmware if i can find it.


Converting to NTFS is nothing to do with regions/protections, but will basically allow single files bigger than 2GB to be created, whereas file systems such as FAT32 will only allow single filesm of up to 2GB to be created.

Just noticed a few other things that you need to sort out -

DMA is off on the Optowrite drive. Sort this out by doing this -

Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected.

Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA).

Basically your current firmware is RPC-2 which means you can only switch the DVD drive's region 5 times, and you've got zero changes left.

There is a region free (rpc-1) version 1.60E of your firmware here -

Basically, I don't have to do any of this myself as my drive is set ignore region protection via my Lite-on utility. For your drive, changing the firmware to RPC-1 (region-free) is only one part of the solution, the other part is to use something such as dvd-genie to change the region once 5 changes have been made.
