You should read manual before doing this. Improper flashing of firmaware could possible put your burner out of funciton.

Thank you Marcus for the prompt reply.

I made the mistake of purchasing a OEM drive. Therefore I do not have the Manuel.

This should be "teleported" to the DVD +/-R Forum

Here is the official site for the latest official NEC firmware for the 3520A....Version 3.04

http://support.necsam.com/oem/downloads/flashfirmware/

Instructions are given on how to flash the firmware and as usual there is mention of risks involved.

Browse thru the DVD +/- R Forum and you will find 2 or 3 threads concerning the 3520A.

Happy Burning!

Laboy,

I am not familiar with the term "teleported".

Looking at the forums I could not find one for DVD +/-R

@creager: "teleported". Hmmm. Not sure if it is in the dictionary.
I use it in the same manner as Capt Kirk would tell Scotty: "Beam" me up Scotty. Hence "teleport" me up Scotty. Therefore, teleport means to move from one place to another...something that a mod can do.

DVD +/-R drives is right After DVD Rom drives on forum list.

Laboy, Thank you very much.

That did it and a very good forum for my needs. Lots of information about the NEC 3520A. I have not received the drive from NewEgg, ordered it 3 days ago. However I now know I ordered the OEM and trying to get what information I can before I install. After reading some of the posts I sure will not fool with any firmware with my experience of computers.

@creager, I too bought the 3520A about 2 months ago and it is a great burner. Mine, was the OEM version also from Newegg, and it came with v1.04 firmware. Don't know where that version is on the pyramid but the latest official version is 3.04 from NEC. Generally firmware revisions add "more media compatibility" when they change meaning they will be able to burn more brands of discs at a better quality.

I would not recommend you flash with a modified, or hacked firmware version as that would void your warranty.

Don't mess with what you got for a few weeks, read up on the 3520, and then later decide what you want to do.

Happy burning.
