i've read through many guides and tried to alter my settings but nothing is helping. I'm using taiyo yuden 16x media, have a sony dru-800 drive, use dvdd and dvdshrink(I bought 1click and it quit working on me) please help.

i just checked that link and i'm using windows ME and notXP. I right clicked my computer and followed the derictions but could not figure it out. please help

That was gonna be my next suggestion but that doesn't control data transfer I dont believe.
Some firmware does take care of riplock.
has it always ripped slow?

i had a problem with my burners the first time i tried 16x media...this solved the problem for me. it was like they couldnt read the disc or something to set the burn speed,they both burned at 2.4x.

Well I never burn 16x, even though my burner supports that speed.It increases your chances for read errors. IMO

i agree but i had to do one just to see. it played fine, i usually burn at 8x.

firmware well help you burn certain discs at the designated speed or faster.Some discs wont even burn without a firmware update.
Go to your burners website and see if you can find an update.

Make very sure you have the exact make and model of your burner before updating or you can ruin your burner.

me either. i was using verbatim 16x+r disc. i have a nec and a sony burner, both had firmware updates. i did that and have never had another problem. i bought both of my burners before 16x media was out that is the only thing i can think of.

i've updated my firmware, made sure data transfer is DMA and not PIO, and dvdd is still only reading at 5.3x

I haven't used DVD Decrypter in quite sometime,that doesn't seem like its ripping that slow to me.
What are your system specs?

I have 3 16x burners,but I NEVER burn that fast 8x is the max for me.
I have enough dvd Coasters in my house! LOL
I get errors going that fast.
