I know these are probably the most basic questions out there, but I still could really use the help. I've been editing with FCP for years and years now, but only recently got a DVD burner -- previously, I just made friends do it for me ;)

Now, here's my problem:

First of all, I'm using Toast Lite which is probably the lamest program out there, but it's free and i have it, and unless it's total crap, I'm fine with using it for now.

I converted my FCP sequence to a m2v file and an aac file, and that seemed to do the trick. I burnt the DVD using a sony DVD-R 4.7 GB-Go disc, and set for best recording, but now I've found that it only plays on my computer - not on my DVD player.

I realize that some media don't work on some DVD players (mine is not too old, a DAEWOO something or other) but my problem is that I need to burn this DVD many times for sale/distribution. so I NEED it to work on every player out there.

What can I do? Where do I start?

my best advice would b use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and both of these can b found here and both of them are really good and FREE!!!

soo there is no cost

when u use these after that u just need a DVD burning program like Clone DVD etc...

The reason your dvd player can't read it is because the files have to be converted for compatability. Your pc is able to read them because you've burned the data to a dvd disc that is recognized by the software you're using. go to:
www.videohelp.com and visit the tools section. There are many freeware programs available that can convert your files so you can burn them to a dvd and watch them on your home player. VSO is one that's fairly simple to use.

thanks for the info.

BUT, I think those dowloads are for PC's and I have a mac.

My main problem isn't burning a DVD at all - I managed to do that. The Prob is getting it to play on a stand-alone player. It's kind of crucial since we're planning on bruning several copies and distributing.

I appreciate your response, but that software is to help me convert files and burn DVD's. I already can do that. I need to know how to make sure it plays on ALL DVD players.

Am I the only one who has trouble getting a burned DVD to play? Still don't know what to do about it...

When asking a question I found it helps to listen to the response
not trying to be rude though bd327 has tried to tell you your not burning a dvd you are burning a data disk that can of course be read by the program that created it or similar. I'm not at all familiar with your set-up or software but these ppl are trying to help you please allow that to happen

Have you checked our MAC forum for an answer? Most of us are PC users and not up to speed on MAC programs. The MAC forum is just what you need to check out. Its about 1/2 way down the forum list but here is the direct link. Good luck.
