ok i've used dvd decripter and dvd shrink combo for the past 6 month to backup all of my 575 dvds i own. i recently purchased the jacket, are we there yet, hostage, troy, asult on present 13, and others. now wheni go to backup my movies, dvd shrink gives me a shit load of errors. like (invalid accses to memory location, invalid vdf filesystem, program error execption occur, data cyclick reundacy check) and many others. i have not changed any settings on shrink, i use shrink to rip the dvd then i reauthor it to make it fit 4.7G then i burn with dvd decrypter. i've looked for solutions in this site and i've tryed a bunch of things, nothing works, ive checked my DMA and video preview on shrink is off. i've also updated to the new version of dvd shrink.
now i use a pioneer 107-D external burner, i use the same unit to rip the dvd and store into my external maxtor harddrive, all via USB2. now i thought that there was something wrong with the burner u know after too many burn and rips, but i tryed riping a dvd via dvd decryptor using the file mode and also via the iso mode, and it worked fine however when i tryed to open it on shrink it gave me an error. now i looked in my folders i had a copy of terminator 3 and texas chainsaw from a few months ago and those open up fine under dvd shrink i can edit it and watch even burn those on decrypter without no problems, why are these new flicks giving me these errors, what new media can i try to solve this, i only have dvd decrypter and shrink can some please help.
thanx in advance and hope u can all help..
thanx again...

Are you sure you have the latest version of DVD Decrypter? Some of those movies are newer, and have caused problems with DVD Shrink.Update your dvdd, rip the discs in the file mode, then edit and compress with DVD Shrink.
I have AnyDVD running in the background, and the dvds just roll over and play dead with it.AnyDVD is a driver type decrypter, and makes all dvds appear to be unencrypted.
21 day free trial available,or you could try DVD43 (free),I havent used this program personally, but many on these forums, and others use it with good success.

Make sure you have the latest Direct X:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/window...

In Shrink go to Edit -> Preferences -> Preview
Make sure the Select DirectX is set to system Default Renderer.

DVD Decrypter gives you some "I/O Interface" choices.

Go to Tools -> I/O tab. I usually leave mine on SPTI-Microsoft but if you have AnyDVD installed, you can switch this to ElbyCDIO-Elaborate Bytes. This allows the updated Elby interface to process the disc and can overcome some of the problems encountered with newer DVDs.

Media:
I use Tayio Yuden 8X -R media, Ritek G-04 -R. I use 4X burn speeds regardless.

These are just suggestions so give them a try and see what happens.

Did you set the DirectX to "System Default Renderer" in Preferences?

If you did then you need to figure out what has changed to cause this problem:

Try backing a movie up to your internal hard drive and then use "Open Files" in Shrink and see if the problem is still there. Do you still have those two movies on your external hard drive? Do these preview correctly?

Check and see if AnyDVD is causing the problem. Remove it and check.

DMA settings are for IDE devices and you are not using them so that should not be a factor. You do state that "video preview on shrink is off". Make sure you set it back to "on".

One thing I noticed is that you use USB2 for ripping and burning. This adds another element to the troubleshooting.

i did all of that already, same problem, when i try to view a dvd from my pioneer 107D i get the same green screen..

now question for you when u ask ("DirectX to "System Default Renderer" in Preferences) are you talking about the preferences on DVD Shrink under EDIT or in my PC hardrive? if ur talking about the change on shrink i've done it and also tryed using the internal same problem, but i do not know how to change it if possible from my internal PC drive, if u could derect me in detail i would be greatful. thanx again...

as for the 3 movies i have on my external harddrive yes shrink previews them with no problem, and i can also burn them on dvd decryptor with no problem and watch them on my dvd player, playstation , portable dvd player, this is so strange, cause before these new flicks eveerything was fine.. the worst part is that the 3 dvds that i have on my external drive, i try to rip them again to see if they work, and shrink can't read the discs. then i try to rip it on dvd decriptor on file mode and it works, but when i try to open them on DVD Shrink or DVD2One it does not work.

i only use verbatim dvd+r discs and they work fine as i said before i burn some audio cds and some dvds that i had on my external drive and they work fine, writing is not a problem for my pioneer 107-d the problem is reading for some reason it has trouble reading the discs, dvds, cause it reads audio cds fine... so i thought it was DVD Shrink, but its not i just installed dvd x player and the same choppy video with green spots apear on my screen and eventualy it just freezes.. it must be some internal problem, don't know what else tp try..
thanx anyway....

are you sure you don't have other issues? such as spyware/malware? also, i backup with an internal drive and have had no problems. most of the problems i have seen in here are not because of hardware or os issues rather because of external issues, just a thought...

If the movies on your HDD display correctly then your DirectX is OK, Shrink is also working correctly.

The only thing on your Pioneer to change is updating your firmware.

A quick way to do this is to open Decrypter, select Tools and from the menu select Drive. A new menu will open and at the bottom you will see a "Check for firmware updates" selection. by clicking on that, you will start a search at http://www.rpc1.org for the correct firmware.

You video card sounds like it might be giving you problems. You may want to have it checked.
