Is anyone familiar with this website?
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
How reliable is the information?
I was surprised to see BenQ Daxon AZ1 & AZ2 media called fourth rate. Has anyone tried BenQ DVD+R media?
I'm curious because in my experience, it's very good, with over 100 flawless burns. I've seen very few actual reviews of this media that were negative, though I did see a post that referenced the above website, which claimed that Daxon AZ2 was "crap"...it didn't seem like the poster had actually tried the media, though.
Any comments?

Well, i have never used "benq/DAXON" media but judging that it is further down the list than CMC I'd have to say that it has to be pretty bad.

That list is a little old. It must be Daxon AZ1 on the list because I've burned 150 AZ2s, 1 or 2 costers, probably my fault

i've used many, many a BenQ CD though have never had need to check them so have no idea who made them. Haven't used or come across/or head heard of Benq or Daxon DVD's myself but did a little searching. I'm still none the wiser as i've read quite a few mixed comments on them. Here's one -

Plus snippets from http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=207260&p=90 -
Quote: I can confirm that the Adelaide Harvey Norman BenQ disks are Daxon marked made in Malaysia. I've been informed that + Are Daxon codes, - are Sony codes.

Daxon Technology Sdn. Bhd.

As you can see, it appears that Daxon's main Optical disk manufacturing takes place in Malaysia.
Quote: Any1 with Benq/Daxon/Lead Data discs on hand (especially those that have Sony Mid code) i'm wondering how the serial numbers are on the disc. I bought a 8x dvd+r Sony with D11 MID made in Taiwan, burned like crap on my NEC. I'm trying find out if mine are daxon or lead data manufactured
The disc has an engraved serial on the inner hub on the bottom (recording) side. Y1DS1331K254VA1154B
Also on the bottom it has a small printed serial marking just before the reflective/dye area, a bit hard to read.
Here some dood mentions Lead Data being an OEM manufacturer for Sony

It "has" to be? That's exactly the point. I have seen more positve comments than negative regarding this media, and I have had nothing but excellent results with it, but because it's on a list, an assumption is made that it's "pretty bad".
creaky - FYI, those links refer to -R (Sony ID) discs, I am talking about +R (Daxon ID).
So...have I just had remarkably good luck? Will I pay for this later on when the discs go bad? Anyone else care to comment?

-R are the Daxon, +R are the Sony ones.
as i said Quote: i've read quite a few mixed comments on them
- they could well be ok. I only did a bit of searching out of interest, as i have no intention of using anything other than Verbatim while they are so reasonably priced; i just like to keep an eye on other media for info

Uh, creaky...I'm not trying to be pedantic about this, but your first link says:Quote: BenQ branded 8x DVD-R media with a MID ID Code of SONY 08D1.
And the quote you posted says:Quote: I've been informed that + Are Daxon codes, - are Sony codes.
Cheers!

@DGenerate, no worries, all i've been doing in this thread is google searching and pasting a few results as i have no experience with them myself. If there's any contradictions, they're not mine but from the results i've found. I only searched for a few things and gave up quite quickly purely because i was seeing contradictions

I've gone through about 550 or so of the BenQ discs.
The +r are daxon from what the Nero disc identifier tells me.
The difference between the AZ1 and the AZ2 seems to be the speed rating. One is the 4x and one is the 8x.(I can't remember which is which, I usually burn at 2.4 with either)
I picked them up trough Future Shop in Canada in the 200 disc packs for about 32 cents a disc.
Like I mentioned, I've burned about 550 and have had less than dozen coasters. Of those I think maybe 5 or six could be blamed on bad media. The others where a combination of human goof ups and 2 power failures.
As for longevity it is too soon to tell, but know some backups that I did a year ago still function fine.
So far so good.

nscotian - that's right, AZ1 is 4x, and AZ2 is 8x. So far, I've had zero bad burns, but longevity is exactly what I've started worrying about lately.
I suppose I could diversify...after all, eggs and baskets, you know.
