Ritek is considered second tier media, and definitely not in the same league as Verbatim.

Youve persuaded me to buy Verbatim and my next day out shopping but does anyone know how to get rid of the green patches?

yay, another victory!.
as to the squares, do a search up top, as i was doing some searching in it too, for a while. Bugt, as i say i gave up with converting my stuff that way, and rarely convert AVI's or anything lately, so didn't persevere in my searching..

ps PC World have been selling tubs of 50 Verb's 8x for £20 which is quite good from a walk-in store i guess.
i did have one or 2 movies convert successfully with VSO but i'm buggered if i can remember which ones. Saying that i probably didn't check them afterwards.. hmmmm.. oh, and i'm not dissing VSO, i can be a bit lazy with some things so just didn't persevere.
I usually use WinAVI Converter but it barfed on one movie or concert. Hang on i've remembered what disc i converted now - it was Iron Maiden's 'Raising Hell'. I'll just skip thru it to check for green squares...

just caught on to this thread..heheh how come u double posting j-kwon~ last 2 times u replied? hehe...must be a trigger happy finger, i am prone to that quite often. :P
anyways, i would rank Ritek #3 in my choice of media, but as others have stated, definitely NOT 1st tier or in the same category as Ty or Verbs~ my #1 and #2 choice respectively~
i have had a lot of experience with ritek, but ONLY the dvd-r 8x G05s, i have never used anything else, so, that media code you posted i am totally unfamiliar with. i have had GREAT success with Ritek G05s, many hundreds with no problems and i have a sony drive too~ dru-710a. i guess ritek's quality control varies from media code to media code...others have had great success w/ G04s (4x) and i personally have had great success w/ G05s (8x)..but, the R03s i have no idea~
i think you did yourself a favor by switching to a better company in Verbatim, my sony likes Verbs very much too~ i personally use the 8x dvd+r format, MCC003~ they are terrific~ :)
good day to you all~

I use Ritek G04 mini DVD'S for my Game Cube backups and they have performed flawlessly, for DVD and other backups, I use YUDEN000T02 for DVD+R and MCC03 for DVD-R, but kiv and creak do you stick only with one format + or - or you use both??

no reason for me, when i started bulk buying discs, ie in my case the dreaded Bulkpaqs (bought them by the shedload), i just happened to buy -R first, had enormous success with playability & compatibility, so stuck with them. (shudders as i then had enormous problems with them). Then i wised up & got into the Verb's and stayed with -R and had no problems at all ever again, so a bit boring, but i get a bit stuck in my ways with things. In my case it pays off with discs

paztelu,
I know you didn't ask me but I use only dvd+r since I booktype everything dvd-rom and my burners seem to prefer +r media.
I think I can speak for kiv and creaky too. Kivory like me booktypes dvd-rom and creaky prefers dvd-r.

Hey if the -r's are working why change ya know the old saying ya can't fix it if it ain't broke. I switched to +r and started booktyping to dvd-rom because I was having problems with ritek G04 dvd-r's and have never looked back since. Some verbatum or taiyo yuden dvd-r's might work fine in my case too but I've never had a problem with good quality dvd+r's booktyped dvd-rom.

ok, just to clarify a bit, i just throw in whatever disc i can find available within reaching distance for my burns, i get lazy when replacing discs into my drives :)
i just have my dvd+r format discs in closer vicinity than my dvd-r, but, i have not had any problems with either since i ONLY buy good media~ TY and Verbs~ :) so, it's just a random toss up...preferences are marginal, whether my verbs are 2 ft. away or my TYs are a foot and a half away, whichever i can reach without getting outta my chair, i use~ :) LOL

Move those verbs a little closer. You might start preaching order of preferance: verbatum and taiyo yuden instead of vice versa. :-0
You know me verbs then ty's.

don't know if i will ever change my order of preferences~ because then people would stop referring to me as "Mr. TY" or "the leader of the TY army" HAHAHA. i have come to really like the sound of that~ :P

Well JW I bought two 50 spindles of DVD-R MCC03 and DVD+R YUDEN T02, I used most of my DVD-R (Like 10 left) and I still have like 25 Yudens(+R), because I mostly use DVD-R I think maybe its time to start using both since they both work well on my DVD players and friends players too GL ;)

I have burned 100s of go4s, go5s, and verbs. Never a problem with either. I don't know about disc lifetime, as It's only been about 3 years I've been doing this. I have also had recent success with some cheap media. I assume it has to do with the fact that my burners are fairly new, and firmware fresh. To each his own.

hi - i been reading about all the bad things about riteck media on here - but i have to say - its been the best one for me -- it works all the time and perfect backups everytime i use them - so i am surprised so many people are complaining about them - i just purchased about 500 from office depot under the name of maxell - the media id is riteck R03
8X -- not only do i have no problems - i browse and do other things as i rip and burn the movies - i check it with DVD Shrink afterwards and run it through dvdinfo pro and all come put perfect - no errors - and i had no complaints from people are use my dvds afterwards - i am using a amd 2500 - over i gig of ram pc3200 - i use DVD Shrink or decrypter - and dvdclone 2 afterwards - so far - so good - the Riteck work so good for me - i just got 500 since there were on sale at office depot in my area under the maxell brand name --
