my dvd rom works properly when i use audio and vcd but when im inserting a dvd it is saying please insert a disc .is ther a solution to this problem

are you sure it's a DVD-ROM drive??
are these DVDs original discs or burns that you can't get it to read?

it is a dvd rom and the discs are original discs

Check the region code your reader drive is set to. If that's different than the disc that could be the problem. Try not to change it too much, you can only change it 5 times during the drive's life. Go to Device Manager and right-click on your drive, select Properties and click the DVD Region tab. Mine is not selected, but I have AnyDVD which makes all discs region free. You may need to pick a region if you don't have AnyDVD.
