Hi all, I'm a newbie to this forum and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I want to copy video I've downloaded from shareaza and change it so that it will play on my dvd player/telly combo. I've tried winavi with no sucess. Any pointers would be gratefully recieved.

A little bit.
Ok take those "whatever you haves", and use vso divxtodvd to convert those those into dvd compliant files, its free, fast, and simple.

download http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm
guide http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_divxtodvd_guide.cfm

Then burn those onto a dvd with the burner program of your choice.

good luck and welcome to the forum

I'll let you know how I got on .

Doh! sorry mate should have known that. To be honest I'm not sure what they are. Think some are AVI and some mpeg. hopefully this will sort me out.

used Vso DivxToDvd to convert my vid clip and then burned it with CopyToDvd. It seemed to work fine except it froze after about 11minutes in my dvdplayer.
The quality of the picture and sound was ok but if I tried to fast forward it froze. When I restarted the disk it ran for about 11 minutes and stuck at that point.
Pretty sure I'm not far away from sucess but I'd appreciate any pointers if you see me doing something wrong here.

evilh0ly...hit the nail on the head.

Most problems like these are media related.
Do not scrimp on media,I use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
