I Used DVD shrink to shrink Aviator to fit a standard disc, but I copied as a dvd folder and not an image on accident. I found out that one of my software, Ulead MovieFactory can burn DVD folders, so I used it.

My results were a DVD with excellent Quality picture even though compression was at 58.8% (and that is on a 65" screen), but there was only sound coming out of my front two speackers and not the center or surround. Does anyone have any idea what happened?

Thanks

You must have selected 2 channel instead of 5.1 during the setup in Shrink

According to DVD Shrink I chose AC3 5.1. I don't even see a 2 channel other than commentary. However the menu is at 2 channel. Do you think that did it?

Read your backup with Shrink to see what audio streams it has listed

Under main movie it lists: AC3 5.1-ch English 478 mb

The others are checked as well but they are at 0 mb

On the menues it lists: AC3 2-ch unspecified 1 mb

Menu audio is always 2 channel, this is a different stream from the movie. If it's listed the 5.1 audio stream must be there. I can't see why it would't play.

Have you ever had problems with surround sound on any other dvd? This is strange because usually the problem is the person selects the wrong stream, but you confirmed you had the 5.1 stream

Seems like your Shrink audio selection was correct. I have not used Ulead MovieFactory to burn. Could that program or it's setup somehow be the problem? Have you backed up other 5.1 movies sucessfully with correct sound output using this method?

Maybe you should download DVD Decrypter (free), you can then select the option in Shrink to burn ISO with DVD Decrypter. Give this a try to see if it works ok, I have used this method with no problems.

Thanks for all the feedback. It turns out that my brother was messing around with my setup. He moved one of my DVD players and when he went to reconnect it, he put some wires into the wrong spots.

I have 3 dvd players in 1 room. I use one as a vhs since it has a vhs on it as well. I use the Panasonic for playing low quality backups on DVD-R discs and the Samsung for everything else. The Panasonic is a theater in a box and I made it so that the Samsung also gets to use its speakers, and that's where the problem was. The Samsung was reconnected wrong.

Thanks again for the help.

The Ulead program is ok (first time using it), but it is too user friendly. I think it is good for beginners or for data discs. It does come with an army of extra software though, and can burn with VOB files only and create menu, though I haven't tried this yet.
