I recorded some footage in .VOB format without realizing that it could not be editted. I have since converted all the files to .AVI format, but just found out that the software that I want to use to cut (Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro) do not support that format. Does anyone know of any good, standard editing software which would accept that format? I have my heart set on using Premiere since I have easy access to it and like all the features that it has, so I was thinking of re-ripping, this time from the original .VOB format to .MPEG. Does anyone know how good/bad the quality of the footage will be in .MPEG format? My #1 priority is to maintain the quality/high resolution of the footage, so if that can't be done, I will explore other options (such as recording from the DVD to a miniDV and then using Firewire to transfer onto a computer. That would take a long time though - I've got about 11 hours worth of footage), and I'd rather avoid it if the loss in quality will be minimal. Any suggestions/comments about this or anything else I could try will be greatly appreciated.

vobs are basically mpegs packaged for DVDs, just like dats are mpegs packaged for VCDs. So if you convert vobs to mpegs, quality would basically be maintained. Why not go ahead and try?

Ok, thanks. Any suggestions for a good (free :) ripping .VOB to .MPEG program out there? Also, what should I set the resolution of the new ripped MPEG file to be, in order to have the highest quality image, or should I just leave it at the suggested range (the one I've seen so far is 352x288)? Thanks again.
