yeah, you know the number of threads related to Nero is growing when they dedicate a forum to Nero issues. Most of the time they still revolve around media (as we all know) but Nero does a great job about documenting everything, so we can pinpoint the problem without too much guesswork.

yeah, Nero log posts aren't really any different from other posts, ie it doesn't matter how many you answer, most new posters won't look thru any previous Nero posts where they'll find all the answers. ah well, keeps us all busy :)

I wish "Search and Learn" would be at the top of all the groups, the answers are all there. All you need is a little patience and you will find them.

I do agree, but it's tough to filter through the Nero logs at first. I think I spent a couple of weeks reading every one I came across before actually speaking up about them, I just had to build up my confidence in reading them.

LOL "The fly in the soup" is that many new forum members would have to search that. Seems many just want to ask and have things delivered without putting in any personal effort.
Same with the logs, wonder how many would find their own problems if they took time to look over their own logs closely?

I agree, with just a little effort you will find the answers. They found their way to AD all they got to do is go a little further and actually read some of the posts and find the answers.

tell me about it, i've been blitzing the new Nero forum as some of you who know me, expected me to. But you're quite right, it doesn't matter how many are solved, all the more will be posted without searching even the post before their post. Worse still they won't look at the reply directly before theirs in the SAME POST!. Perfect case in point is the official Hitch thread. I'm not complaining, especially as i'm now used to it. Just saying that i can't understand why so many people stumble upon afterdawn, post a post, but don't actually read the previous post to theirs. I guess the longer i'm here the more amazed i become that it will never stop!!

and you know what's daft about the Nero logs, as they're a great example - i for one attack the logs in the exact same way, every blessed time!. if new people read even 2 of my Nero replies, they'd see a pattern, and could see how easy it is. But they don't. Then there's the guy on a thread a few days ago who moaned that people such as me spewed put the same answers to so many threads and i told him that's because a lot of the symptoms are the same, therefore a lot of the fixes are the same. I dunno, the mind boggles !!

I finally unsubscribed to the Official Hitch thread, nobody was paying attention to any of the posts on there, it was getting too crazy.

Just to let you know I pulled out a backup disk of Wizard of Oz I had made from an original I had given to my grandaughter who ruined it. I planned to backup the backup. It was done on a Verbatim disk using my now boxed up 1008UI. Well the disk had CRC errors so bad that the computer froze. Goes to show you can use good media and still have bad backups if you have a crappy drive.

i know, generally i assume the hardware is fine, i always attack threads with logfiles on the basis that the drive is fine; i report what i see within the logfile, and work up from there. As long as ppl fix what's within, we can't do any more.., the rest is up to them...

Just try to remember that not everyone is computer literate, and many people need help just turning on a PC. Granted, these people shouldn't be trying to backup their movies if they can't figure out how to use the damn computer, but that's how you learn. We were all like that at one point.
I've found that some people don't even read your replies to them. I posted a solution to a problem once, 5 other people posted 5 other solutions, the guy never found out his problem. Finally I put my response in bold and he listened. That can get pretty annoying. You'd think that seeing the words Senior Member or AfterDawn Addict would get people to pay attention to your posts a bit more in that situation, but I guess not.

Hi All, i feel that i must clarify the recent posts to my thread. After reading through the posts on practically the whole forum (just in case i missed something) i found the answer i was looking for. But recent posts suggest i didn't do my homework (that wouldn't be the first time). Am i being paranoid? I joined the forum just to say thanks for pointing me in the right direction. When anyone takes the time to reply to my question i am more than grateful, even more so when those members are classed as a Senior Member or AfterDawn Addict, from this humble newbie i bow to thee. Have A Good Weekend All

No need to bow. Glad to see you're finding things to help you out on the forum.

As far as paying attention to someone according to the title, that is a huge error. I've seen some Addicts good on one topic, but dense as a mudpie on others. (In fact, one only has to be a prolific poster to get an advanced title. I've seen people post "yeah man, that's right" enough to up their membership level. I'm sure we've seen some of these Senior "cheerleaders".) I wish I knew it all, but alas, I don't. I didn't even do many commentaries until I got an advanced title. Most of my posts were and are to help threads. Now that I have nothing to prove, I can ramble a bit. You will find that most often I will keep out of discussions where I'm ignorant on the subject. I guess what I'm saying here is that new members should pay a bit of attention to what and who they're listening to and be a little leery of titles. Many of the seniors and addicts know what they're talking about and are serious in their attempts to help others. However, there is that annoying group that is only looking for attention that causes problems with their prolific posting. You can tell who these are, hare-brained methods or just repetition of others works and taking personal credit for others contributions. There one has to be careful as well, more than one person can come up with the solution for a problem. So, one can see a number of solutions for the same problem. Did I mention this helping others is a minefield in itself sometimes. Good luck guys and gals...
Food for thought... enjoy what you're doing helping others, when it is no longer fulfilling or one is berating others instead of helping, it's time to quit. Also, if one is just doing it to look good, walk away. I've found it to be quite a learning exprerience helping others when I can. The more we learn the more we're able to help. Those who know it all have closed themselves off to change and are quickly becoming part of the problem.
By the way there is no inference here toward anyone. I was just rambling about one of my pet peeves.
Now that idea of considering most hardware as being good and attacking the problems as a software problem... Many problems I've found have been hardware associated. Most often inadequate systems. I'll often ask questions about the hardware to get a picture of what the software is working on. Granted, the preponderence of issues are with improperly used software or software conflicts (which reverts back to improper usage). Many times I make the same error and jump into diagnosing the software. Then, on certain occasions, I'm brought back to the real world and have to backtrack to the hardware to find the problem. When clearly dealing with a beginner, I try to find out the hardware in use and the software and methods being employed. I've found beginners seem to have an aversion to manuals for some reason.
