I don't know if anyone has posted this but at CompUSA stores this week (through July 2nd) they have the Verbatim DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) 3-pack on sale for $11.99 each. Regular price is $19.99 per pack, and then you get $8 instant off at the register...$11.99 is a great deal for these so check your local CompUSA.

Hummm... that is definitely a good deal, especially it's Verbatim DVD+R DL. I'm considering about getting it, since I do back up movies on DL format once in a while, and plus I'm only 15 mins to one of the CompUSA in my area.

I may have to try some as well. Then ask someone with experience what the best method of burning one is since I haven't ventured into that territory yet. Bout time I did tho. Can't let you guru's get to far ahead of me. :)

@Mort81

Take the leap it is worth it for long movies. I have used Decrypter and CopytoDVD both worked out great. Decrypter just breezed along and playback was fine.

Yeah, he posted last night and said he was going to be around more, which is great. Told him the new site is looking really good. Like the snazzy artwork.

Yeah, I visited his site last night and it looks good. He has put all of the guides in pdf format. I emailed him with kudos on the looks of his site and he replied he did it because people were having trouble printing them out. I know I had trouble on a couple of them (red background) that my printer had trouble with. He said he had posted on a couple of threads recently, but would not be around as much as he had been. Shame that some posters will be a-holes and give a guy grief when he tries to help. A/D is a great site and I am hear to learn from the masters.

As you say it is good to see him back and at least posting. AD is a big site and there is room for everyone. My two cents.

Just got back from the local CompUSA and not a Verb DL in the place. Asked salesman and he stated they must be all out, so no DL's for me .... sniffle, sniffle. They did have a 5 pack of TDK DL for 35.00 but I told them I would pass, would rather stick with my Verb. Guess it is back to the WalMart, or think I will check out the online CompUSA.

@arniebear

You need the "2 cents" I have on my desk. Picked up 2 penny coins in a hardward store in Michigan. They are about 5" in diameter and I have been known to use quite often as my team (I am a project manager) asks me what I think about something and I will tell them, toss the coins on the table and say "that's my 2 cents worth" -- think they are getting tired of seeing/hearing that. Someone stole (or borrowed) 1 of them about a year ago and then it suddenly reappeared on my desk one day.

I just came back from Compusa. They didnt have any on the shelf so I asked the guy to check their computer, it showed they had two. He went to the back and found two packs that fell behind some boxes. $4.00 a disc is still kind of steep for me but is alot cheaper than what they were.

You must have got the disks that were supposed to be at my store. Seriously, I hope you enjoy your dual layers, and happy burning :~)

My local CompUSA had these in stock. I'm glad I only bought one package. I got 3 coasters out of 3. They were burned on 3 different burners-a Pioneer DVR-109, an LG GSA 4163b and a Lite-On SOHW 1633S. I used some of these before when they were $30.00 for 3 and they were much better. The burn on the Pioneer was at 6X, the LG at 4X and the Lite-On at 2.4X In the past I burned a DL on the Pioneer at 6X and it was great. The Lite-On also burned good at 2.4X although not as good as the Pioneer at 6X. Check out these Kprobe scans.

These were all done with DVD Decrypter-ISO read and ISO write. The first scan should be the Lite-On and the next one the Pioneer. See mext post for LG.

I don't know why the LG wasn't displayed.
Here's another try.

At least I did gain 3 jewel cases. $11.99 plus tax is a little much for 3 jewel cases, though.

Maybe I'm relying on the PI/PIF a little too much. I just checked one of these for CRC errors and there weren't any. All of these DVDs play also. I know with single layer, a spike of over 10 or so PIF will give me pixelation. Anything much higher than that causes jerking or freezing. Kprobe 2 has 4 as an upper limit on PIF since it's now measuring PIF for 1 ECC block instead of 8 like the old Kprobe. DVD Info Pro's test still uses 8 ECC blocks for PIF measuremant. CD/DVD Speed Test apparently uses 1 ECC block in their DVD Quality test for PIF because their graph is green up to 4. That's with a Lite-On. I've noticed that with a Benq the scale is different. Maybe I'll get one of those next. I'd like to have an alternate way to test than with just my Lite-On. My LG won't read PI/PIF and my pioneer will only using DVD Info Pro and the results are so different that they don't mean anything to me. Since these movies are apparently going to work I wish I hadn't put the same movie on all 3. Oh well.

you're quite right, the kprobe etc scans are all well and good, but as long as there's no CRC errors that's all that really matters. I and the other hand have had god-awful scans with many CRC errors. Have a look at the 1st link in my sig for more info if you like...
