Hey all. I am a newbie here and I thank you for allowing me admission to your awesome sight. Here's my deal:

Just bought Dell Inspiron 6000 w/ DVD burner - burning software included is called "Sonic."

So I have this correct, I want to download DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 and "Shrink" in combination to properly format the DVD data, and then import that data into my DVD burner?

Also, I just spent $2k on the notebook and I am trying not to download a spammed out ripper. (I have had problems in the past). Is DVD D and Shrink going to fill my comp up with spam? Thanks

Yeah, try download and explore the full capacities of Decrypter and Shrink. You can't get wrong with them, but make sure you read the guides. They're also cleaner than anything on the market, so don't worry.

Hi, gullyj... I recently bought a Dell Precision m20. I uninstalled Sonic and I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter a lot. I also use Nero Recode2 and Nero BurningROM (came with the burner). I passed on the DVD burner and got a CD-RW/DVD drive and then added a Pioneer DVR-109 loaded in an external case for under $90 and an external SeaGate 120 GB HD via USB that I caught on sale for $60. You can get the Nero OEM Suite #3 online for $8 bucks shipped! If you do, make sure you get OEM Suite #3. Suites 1 & 2 do not include Recode2. Or you can buy the full-blown retail version (too much crap in it in my opinion though).

Gullyj, if you have Nero, Shrink will automaticaly burn your DVD for you. You can trust DVDDecrypter and Shrink when downloaded from here.

I usually tell Shrink to make an ISO and burn the image with Decrypter. I've used Sonic and I personally don't like it one bit for DVDs. For CDs it's ok though. Plus if you set Shrink to burn with Decrypter it automatically opens it up, all you have to do is insert a disc. No real need to buy Nero here.

Thanks for the imput. Your directions seem preety easy to follow, but I think I have to visit a tech glossary because some of the terms you guys use are over my head.

Also, a friend of mine told me a program called "Popcorn" can be aquired through Limewire, and it is like a DVD Decryp & Shrink combined. How accurate is this advice? Anyone use Popcorn??

gullyj,
If you are talking about "Popcorn" that is produced by the people who do Toast then that is a Mac Program

I backed up a dvd that playes perfect on my dvd player but not on my pc. The video is stretched out and there is no sound. Can ne one help me? By the way I have used real player and windows media player. I used a Maxell Dvd if that makes a difference. Another thing i noticed is that my burner was really loud when trying to playback and that is not normally the case. I followed the shrink instructions and used a 4x burn. Dont know if that has ne thing to do with it.

vip90805,
Welcome to the forum,
I would say w/ your description of your problem the burner could be on it last days of life. You said it is noisy and you can not play back the movie in it properly. You can now buy burners real cheaply and that might be the way you need to go

The dvd burner works great except when i use the dvd that i backed up. When i play the original dvd it plays perfectly on my computer silently the way all the rest of my dvds play. Im just having a problem with the one i have backed up. Thx. My dvd burner is one of the latest ones for the record lol.

Well then I would suggest you try another blank media. Try Verbatim to see if the burner quiets down. Never heard of a burner that makes noise only when you play back copies that are backups.
