does anyone know if there's software to make the volume louder? Or at least to make DVDs louder, such as a player with crazy audio settings? My laptop's sound isn't too great, but i can barely hear DVDs when i play them with all the volume settings at max. It's not that my computer can't produce loud sounds; it'll play other files loud, just not DVDs. I'm sure this is an issue with most DVDs since, I have that problem on my TV also.

I use Media Player Classic off the K-Like Mega Codec Pack. There's an audio filter that will let me boost volume, but it doesn't work with DVDs.

Thank you.

yeah, but then i gotta carry that around. I would buy amped speakers if they were USB powered, had volume control, AND had line out so that the amped sound could be heard through headphones. Line in would be nice also so i can plug in a microphone headset to it, but not necessary since i would only use it for games and my notebook line in/outs work fine. The notebook line in/outs are too loud, in fact. i have to turn it way down to bear it. I was thinking of buying a USB soundcard and some USB speakers which would do the trick, but then i gotta carry two more things around.

Try this version of VideoLan player

ftp://ftp.yi.se/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.0/win32/

For some reason the volume on this player is much louder than others. I can often hear DVD ISO files much better without even bumping up my Windows Volume Control. Even if you have one of the newer versions(vlc.exe) get this 0.8.0 player because it amplifies the volume much more.

VideoLan worked very well, but found that PowerDVD worked best at increasing DVD volume, and made the picture look better too. VideoLAN does have it's perks; it's free, small, fast, and it doesn't require an install. i'll have to hold on to a copy of it.

I mostly use it to check out a DVD before burning. I love it that I don't have to go back and restore my volume slider to where I like it set every time I test an .ISO image.

I've had ther same problem with both DVDs and certain satellite channels. What I did was to make a simple single stage audio preamp with volume control on it. This way, all the dvds I burn have the same volume level reguardless of the origional source.

Just to correct some inadvertent misinformation I propagated:
It turns out that the "volume boosting" effect of VLC Media Player
is a function of the skin, not the version of the player. So it
turns out there's no reason I know of to install anything other
than the latest 0.8.2 VLC Media Player. Sorry for the confusion.
