Is it possible to play PS2 games on a computer? I mean the actual, unmoded game.
On the same thought, what parts are in a game console? Yes, I want a big, boring list and you don't need to explain any of it if you don't want.
Just one more question, is it possible to fix game consoles and/or DVD players so they can do things they were not origionally designed to do (i.e. I have a DVD player, and I have DivX movies. How can I put these two things together without spending $150 on a new DVD player?)
fair enough. I searched and generally what I hear is that a PC needs about 8x the processing power of a game counsole because the consoles are built for the sole purpose of playing games.
Would it be possible to built a console-type device, dedicated solely to playing games and movies? something that can have hardware easily upgraded, and that is programable to play various types of games and movies (such as PS2, PSX, XBOX and PC games; VOB, DivX, Mpg movies... you get the idea).
I highly doubt you can make some sort of console device that will play xbox, ps2 and gamecube games, pc games etc. If you could make something like that you could run every other game developers consoles out of business. The only closest thing that you will get to playing all those games is playing them on your pc using what they call an emulator. You can find emulators for your games by searching on google.
The point was it would be a sort of PC thingy which uses emulators to play console games. The only real difference between this and a PC would be that resources would be almost all devoted towards game play, as opposed to running windows, and various other programs. If you remember, nintendo emulators always worked perfectly, except that games didn't run properly untill pentium 75's came out.
It would be possible to make such a console, I just wanted to know if it would be possible to have it run quickly enough to play these games properly.
How could you even think that it would be possible to make such a console? do you seriously think microsoft and sony would allow that kind of copyright infringement for long? besides, getting the proper software/hardware to run those original games on such a "foreign" machine isn't that readily available, and then there's the fact that ps2 and xbox have very different controllers...and some very different hardware specs, so keep on dreaming dude....
harsh words little man and/or woman. Now see if you cut out the first half of what you wrote that woulda been a perfect answer. I ~DID~ mention that i had no intentions of running windows -- or any other operating system -- as well as playing a game. In fact that would completely defete the purpose of my "dream".
My *cough* groin demands I defend myself more, so: why be such a prick about that "dream" buisness anyways? If I had the slightest clue I wouldn't ask, now would I?
But anyways, thanks for saying "ps2 and xbox have very different controllers...and some very different hardware specs". That's all I wanted to know.
Good effort on milking insults. you stretched them a little too far though, because you based them on crap that I outright said I didn't want to do.
I WAS NOT talking about running windows, but consider this: both ps2 and xbox use very different software/drivers to run those games... That's what i meant with copyright infringement... As far as insult go, i wasn't trying to insult you, it's just that this "Idea" has been suggested all over the internet in various forms, and i'm just sick and tired of people suggesting things that just aren't possible in this day and age.
hahahahaha this is going nowhere. let's just forget this forum ever existed, and hope that no one ever, EVER sees this so they don't laugh at us. I mean, out of all of the the posts, only 3 were related to my question, and all of the others were just bickering.
