I've always had no problems burning up until about two months ago. Whenever the writing process gets to about 20%, (I use Dvd shrink and decrypter by the way) the buffer level begins to shoot up and down and it stops burn the dvd altogether, saying my remaining time is 'unknown'. I've tried to use Nero and it does the same thing but continues to burn whenever it randomly hits 100% on the buffer level, so one dvd can take hours. I even got my burner swapped, and it DID work for a week or so, but eventually began doing the same as the other. I have a benq EW162I (external) and I use memorex dvd+rs.

Thanks a lot,
Kevin.

hi forceten welcome to AD

Let's see if we can get some additional info before proceeding. First what speed are you trying to burn at?

usually crap media as they identify as cmc mag...will cause problems or bad burns. Suggest changing your blank dvd media to verbatims or taiyo yuden. If you post your Nero log we can get a better view of what the actual issue may be and continue from there. When posting your Nero log remember to edit out the Nero serial number which will start with 1A23- or 1A20. Hope to see you again with the log to check some things out.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

I don't get an error message for either dvdd or Nero, and my log for dvdd is as follows:

I 14:45:18 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
I 14:45:18 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
I 14:45:18 Initialising SPTI...
I 14:45:18 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 14:45:19 Found 1 DVD-ROM/CD-RW and 1 DVD±RW!
I 14:45:19 Operation Started!
I 14:45:19 Source File: C:\TPB_01.ISO
I 14:45:19 Source File Sectors: 2,285,900 (MODE1/2048)
I 14:45:19 Source File Size: 4,681,523,200 bytes
I 14:45:19 Source File Implementation Identifier: DVD Shrink
I 14:45:19 Destination Device: [0:0:0] BENQ DVD DD EW162I 47N9 (E:) (USB)
I 14:45:19 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-E01-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x)
I 14:45:19 Destination Media Sectors: 2,295,104
I 14:45:19 Write Mode: DVD
I 14:45:19 Write Type: SAO
I 14:45:19 Write Speed: 8x
I 14:45:19 Link Size: Auto
I 14:45:19 Test Mode: No
I 14:45:19 BURN-Proof: Enabled
I 14:45:20 Filling Buffer...
I 14:45:23 Writing LeadIn...
I 14:45:32 Writing Image...

Then at 20%, the device buffer shoots up and down. I burn at 8x, which is what my dvd's max is. I'm just frustrated because it used to work perfectly and all of a sudden, it's not. Would you suggest that my lens is dirty, or is the memorex dvd's, because they used to work and the quality is just as good as regular store-bought dvds.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

These are some of the worst discs available. Try better ones like Verbatum DataLifePlus with Super AZO Dye or Taiyo Yuden.
