I use DVD decrypter, DVD shrink 3.2 and Nero 6.6.0.14 which all seem to be operating normally except none of them let me burn DVD's. I have a sony vaio DVD+R DL, +-RW 4x and have burned on DVD DL prior to install the above software. The applications seem to be working normal but won't find blank DVD media of any kind (+R, -R, +R/DL). Another thread suggested reinstalling the DVD (my sony?) burner which is the direction I think I need to go. Any suggestions? Sorry if this isn't the right spot for newbie questions. This is a great site with great forums.

Thanks!!

byron747,
Is the burner's firmware up to date? Check the burners website for that. Since it is a Sony burner you might try using Sony, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blank disks.
To uninstall the burner go to Device Manager> Hardware> and find the burner and click on the + sign if it is there. Right Click on the burner and click on uninstall. Then re-boot the computer and the OS should re-install the burner. See if that helps

Hi byron,
Are you running any other rippers? ie; AnyDVD or DVD43. I had the same problem on two of my pc's. I had to disable both of the above in order for the blank media to be recognized. It's a little frustrating but no big deal.
Goodluck,

Actually, you might want to read some of this thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/198973

The thread ius basically in regards to problems with a particular burner, but I think therre is suitable info there, where you might find a solution.

And I agree, if you are running a conflicting DVD ripping program (Ie, a ripper that is NOT DVD-Shrink/DVD Decrypter) those programs that you have installed? MAY have also installed gung that prevents proper burning- So try that out before.

still no luck.. i have tried Maxelle, Sony, Verbatim, and Taiyo disks and all three formats but the apps can't find the media. I uninstalled the Sony DVD RW DW-D56A burner but didn't mess with the "ELBY DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device." Should this also be uninstalled? As for conflicting applications, the only thing I can think of is a program called Clone CD but it doesn't make DVD's. I disabled it and unmounted the F: drive but still can't recognize the media. I still think it's a hardware driver or something along those lines as I just installed CloneDVD which also ran normally up until the point it wasn't able to find the blank media. :( Sony tech support had me uninstall CloneDVD because it had a clone CD drive. I again tried reinstalling the Sony DVD burner but none of the applications will 'see' blank DVD's. Sony says my only option is to do a factory restore which I'm hoping to avoid.
