N00b: A quick and easy way to rip a DVD

I've tried gordian knot, that's too hard and can't get my head around it. Could anyone please point me int he direction of some (preferable- but doesnt matter - free) software which rips the dvd quickly with only a few configarations needed?

DVD Shrink is a nice and simple way of making backups,you can download it from the software page.

Shrink is OK, except for those few movies with new encryptions on them (Resident Evil 2, Little Black Book, Are We There Yet?, Spanglish, Hitch just to name a few). For those other ones, you may have to use DVD Decrypter. There are programs like AnyDVD and DVD43 which will run in the background and rip off any encryptions as you go along.
