I recently purchased a Samsung Optical DVD DL Burner. Although it's an internal model, the company I purchased it from had put it in an external case so that it can connect externally via the USB port. Now it works fine when I burn single layer DVDs but when I burn DL DVDs I often end up with problems on the backup. 3 things in specific:
1. I can't fast forward or rewind through chapters.
2. When going to the second layer during play, the movie freezes up. (And even doesn't go to second layer chapeters from the main menu.)
3. Though the disk starts playing on my stand alone Sony DVD, my PS2 doesn't even recognize the backups at all.
I've had this problem with 3 out of 4 DVDs. One of them, however, came out just fine.
I've used Nero and DVD Shrink to burn and have had this problem with both softwares. When using Nero with DL DVDs I usually get a message after I hit the burn button wich says: "The loaded disc is not registered in the drives write strategy list.If you use the disc for writing the quality might be worse than a registered one. We recommend enabling the Verify option to make sure writing has been done correctly." And then it gives you the option of enabling Verify or not. The first time i burned i enabled verify and ended up with the problems stated above. The second time I did not enable verify and that was the disc that came out fine. The next two I burned I did not enable verify but still ended up with the same problems. When i used DVD Shrink there was no mention of an unregistered write strategy. Could someone tell me what this problem is all about?
I have only burned in files in file mode on Nero and DVD Shrink. But I have not tried DVD Decryptor in ISO mode yet. Perhaps that might make a difference, but I'm hesitant to try it since each DL DVD is about $7 a pop.
The Media I'm using is RiData though I've heard that Verbatim is much better. I wish I could know whether this is a Media problem or a drive problem (Samsung TS-H552B - The "B" Model is supposed to be an internal drive but i'm using it as an external). However, I would tend to think it might be a Media problem since I was able to burn one of the four DVDs successfully. But if anyone could help me out by letting me know what the problem most likely is, I'd greatly appreciate it.
thanks so much and please excuse the rambling.
