Hi I have read a view posts praising Verbatim DVD+/-R disks, so I decided to buy a spindle of 50. However when I looked at the packaging it said made in Taiwan, and I have also read people on here saying to avoid Taiwanese made disks. The only makes that said made in Japan were Maxell and Memorex. Several makes like TDK, Sony etc only give address details for the brand rather than specifically saying where they were made? Are Maxell and Memores decent makes?

MOST of the verbatims you will find nowadays are MADE IN TAIWAN, they are TOP tier media~ PLEASE, for the LOVE OF GOD, STAY AWAY FROM MEMOREX, they are LOW GRADE media (CMC MAG) which is just banking on the memorex name (they were made popular in the past w/ other decent products, but that tradition does NOT carry or hold true w/ their dvd media)

stick w/ Verbatim and please don't pay attention to the "MIJ=good, MIT=crap" rumor that has been going around, Verbatim is a CLEAR example where that does NOT hold true...haven't seen ANY Verbs made in japan yet, but, they are GREAT media~ :)

TY and Verbs forever~ :P good luck

Recommended Media:

Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I bought 2 50-packs (last 2 on the shelf) of -R from Best Buy today to go with 2 50-packs I bought last week. Also have 2 50-packs of Maxell gold top (actually kinda mustard colored) that I have used before so I should be set media wise for a while.

Buying media on sale is addicting. I have over 1000 pieces of blank media. 500 Yuden-000-T02, 100 TYG-02, 300 Maxell MXLRG-03, 100 TYG-03, 100 Verbatim 16x +, 100 Verbatim 8x + and -. I don't ever think I will use all of it and for some reason I just keep buying it. I them all for less than 350.00 USD on sale at different times. Thats about .30 a disc. I am a lost cause.

That is exactly what I am afraid will happen. Another format will be released that will render our discs useless, but in the back of my mind I can't believe that will happen to soon and even if it does I think we can use our discs but we just won't have the extra technology on it.

I can't even afford to buy dual layered discs.
blu-ray is so far in the future, as far as cost wise,I'm not going to worry about it.

I think its going to be quite a few years like 3+ before blue ray or something else comes along to replace the blanks we use now...the disks have to go below 1.00 a disk before they are accepted as the standard to replace something else. So I would not worry

Even at 1.00 a piece I think that is still expensive. I must waste 20 discs a week just doing testing and scans.

I am not worrying about Blu-Ray, or HDVD they still got to finish battling it out, and then how many people are going to run right out there to replace the equipment they got to play the new formats. It will take years, I own several TV's not all of which are high definition they all work well, so I am not replacing them and a lot of other people feel that way to. That is why HDTV is taking so long to get going, who wants to buy a converter box for 300.00. I am so tired of people telling me what I have is outdated in a short time.
