hey. i am trying to encode a xvid file to mpeg 2. i have done this before and whath appens is once it is encoded i used sonic dvd and another creator and it took a year to burn but when i watch it on the dvd. the video looks stretched beyoung my tv screen aspect. the subtitles and bottem part of the episodes my tv has a widescreen enhanced// when i do that.. it fits in the screen but the subtitles of course get smalller..

anyone have any idea of what i need to do to get it to show correctly on my screen. it plays fine in my windows media player but once it gets encoded.. it looks fine.. i used main concept mpeg encoder and it looked good once i encoded it. but buring it to dvd.. the aspect ratio i guess is off to where it won't fit on my screen

help please///

First, make a VCD. It well'be faster (couple hours) and watchable as a DVD, and since the input is a Xvid..there'll be no quality loss.
Second: it could be foe 2 reasons: the subtitle encoded badly (the black margin of the TV overlap the subtitle because the border of a file is never seen y the screen) or a bad video arragne method used.
I do't know the encoder you used, but on TMPGenc 2.5 I use Full screen (keep aspect ratio) .
If the problem was only this, it's easy.
If the subtitle has badly encoded in the AVI I'd use 'Center (custom size)' reducing the screen, keeping 'by hand' the aspect ratio (e.g. reducing a 600x400 screen, keep a 'screen' 330x220 or something similar (a full VCD is 352x240). Similar for a DVD, but for testing I would to make someting faster and simpler...

If the movie is OK when seen on your PC, it's a TV's fault.
'Burning' an already encoded movie into a DVD won't cut his edges (If you don't believe me, whatch that DVD by your PC's DVD-unit. You'll chack that the PC's monitor does not 'cut' any edges of the movie..)...
