Make region 2 DVD playable in Region 1 DVD player

I found a tremendous amount of material about hacking DVD players to play in Region Free mode. But having one single DVD of Region 2 I wish to play in my US (Region 1) DVD player, no sense to modify my player, instead I wish to convert the disc itself.
I ripped it with DVD Decrypter, set it Region Free, converted PAL to NTSC, burned and still got the message that "play prohibited due to Region" in my Sony DVP NS501P player. The original disc plays well in the PC (WinDVD).
Apparently the DVD player accepts only Region 1 discs, not even Region Free (0) or 1,2,3,4,5,6 region settings of the disc. And using DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, IFOEdit, didn't due the job, they all set the burned dvd to Region Free which is still not acceptable by the DVD player.
I can not find any instructions or even discussions about modifying the disc's code (FFh ? ). Any suggestions? Thanks.
NOTE: This is not pirating, all I want to make my legit purchased DVD during our European vacation playable on my DVD player.

Try install DVD43 (free program). It works in the background, and you'll never have to worry about region problem anymore:
