Use DVD Shrink and make sure you have the subtitles selected to play.

DVD Shrink will Only Do subtitles if you are Ripping a Movie from DVD and want Subtitles but will not help at all if you have an AVI file and a Sub or SRT File, DVD-Shrink really isn"t even a DVD authoring Program it is a DVD Backup program....

The Way to add subtitles to a DVD when Trying to Make a DVD From an AVI file with a Subtitle file is You have to use a DVD authoring Program that supports Subtitles Like "MediaChance DVDLab Pro"...

You would First have to encode your AVI file to a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 file and then Load the File into DVD Lab and Load the Subtitle File into DVDLab and then Drag and Drop your Mpeg-2 file on the "Movie 1" Timeline Window and then Drag and Drop the Subtitle File on the Movie 1" window and then add your Chapters and Menu"s and Burn the DVD and you should Have selectable Subtitles....

try winavi + directvobsub
i just found out that this will give you a subtitled movie.
you need to have the subtitle in the same directory as your movie and give it exactly the same name!
i converted the movie to mpeg2.

Another new option is if you have a file such as a DivX, AVI, XviD, you can use DivXtoDVD it will do everything in one, convert with your subtitles, and burn it to dvd.
