AVI's on a DVD ... Choppy Playback

Hi, i recently burned a few avi files using nero's data dvd option. My problem is that when i play the files straight off the DVD the playback is choppy... not horribly choppy but once every ~15 seconds or so it chops. I tried lots of different media players including VLC, WindowsMediaPlayer, ect.. still get choppy playback.

Whats interesting though, is when i copy the files from the dvd to my hdd and play it off my hdd, it works just fine, no choppiness. Im thinking this problem has to do with my dvd drive? It's to slow?? Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks!

check ur frame rate on the avi's most avi's have a 23.975 frame rate that the hdd player can decode nicely, but dvd's normly changes the frame rate to 29.97 for tv standards but the player is dropping the frame rate to 23.97 (its original frame rate) causin the AVI to be choppy. IMO

Check that DMA is enabled for the drive. Does it take an unusually long time to copy them back?

i just realized what u were talkin bout, its not that ur dvd player is too slow but that ur buffer is to small. ur comp will take the file off the dvd and store it in a temp folder and read the file from there but the temp folder can only hold so much MB's (which u can set higher), as the file is being read by the player it clears the buffer openin room for the rest of the file. this causes slow and choppy play back

open control panel, double click system, click advanced tab, click settings under the performance options, click advanced tab in the performance options menu, click change under virtual memory and allocate more hd space to be used as ram i got mine set to like 1gig
