I just recieved sample discs from Maxell-Hitachi. The Fairlawn N.J. facility just recieved a small shipment of these in single jewel cases. They are -media and are made in Japan. I was told these discs were made by Maxell-Hitachi and not outsourced to Ty or anyone else. A full 4.3gig compressed disc burned in 5:19 sec on an L.G. 4163B A104. They should be available in store by Sept. 2005.

... The Digital FAQ site rates the Japanese produced Maxell discs even higher that the TYs ... I know that the 8x Maxell/Hitachi media is excellent stuff ... I get great scans from it ... Smells kinda funny though ...

everyone is entitled to their OWN opinions, i use that site as a guideline, definitely helpful, but the user opinions and facts there are NOT set in stone. :) i have the 8x Maxells MIJ as well, while VERY good, i PERSONALLY would not rank them as high as my TYs or even my Verbatims at that~ it's just user experience/opinion...but, im SURE these maxell 16x will be VERY good as well, comparable to my TYGO3s and my MCC004s (TY and VERB media coding for 16x that i own-TY is dvd-r, and Verb is dvd+r formats respectively)

good luck with those new maxells aland~ :)

Recommended Media:

Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

First of all, I only got 5. Second, they will not even be available until after the summer. I burned all five and got the best results with my L.G. 4163 A104. The Nec was ok with them but I think a firmware upgrade will be needed.
