HELLO
Who can help me with the following.
I am using virtualdub to get subtitles combined
with my -avi movie. When I see the result the
subtitles are synchron with the movie but the
sound is behind.
Who can help.
When it is a new file I want to decode it with
winavi to dvd-format.

If you want to make a DVD with Subtitles you are Totally going about it the Wrong way...
I'm sure you have watched a DVD rented from the Video store that Has Subtitles?? If so I"m sure you also noticed that the Subtitles on a DVD are Selectable(Meaning you can Turn them on and Off and you can change the subtitles to different Languages)??
The way you are Trying to do it the Subtitles will become Part of the Image and encodeing AVI to AVI and then encodeing to Mpeg-2/DVD is just going to Take a Long Time and Totally degrade the Quality because every time you convert a File you Loose lots of Quality especially with allready heavilly Compressed Formats Like DivX and XviD....
The Correct way to do this is to First Encode your AVI file to a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 File useing a High Quality Mpeg encoder(WinAVI isn"t a High Quality encoder but I guess it will do, the MainConcept encoder is Much better and allmost as Fast)...
Once your AVI file is a Mpeg-2 file you will need a High Quality DVD Authoring Program that Supports Subtitles like "MediaChance DVDLab Pro" and you Load the Mpeg-2 file in as the Video source and you load in the SRT subtitle File as the Subtitle file and author them to DVD with your Own Custom Menu"s and Chapters and even have Menu"s that use your own Backround Music and even use Video Clips as Menu"s.....
You can also adjust the Speed and Time code of the Subtitles so they sync up correctly with the Video in DVDLab and you can also Change the Font and the Color and the size of the Print and adjust the subtitles Position on the Screen....
Once the DVD Is Finally Finnished you will be able to turn the Subtitles on and Off and when making a DVD the Proper way you will get Much Better quality and you will be able to create DVD"s that have the Same Interactive Features as the DVD"s you rent from the Video Store.....

PS:The reason why your Subtitles could be out of Sync is because if the Frame Rate of your AVI file is Different than the Frame Rate of the DVD then there will be Sync problems.....

for the information.
I've seen the programs mainconcept encoder
and dvdlab pro , it looks very difficult.
I have about 40 movies and subtitles.
I just want a movie with the right subtitle,
a complete menu isn't necesary. (but it looks cool).
Isn't there a trick toget the sound synchron
with the movie.
Movie and subtitle perfect, sound is out of line.

Is the Sound In Sync Before encodeing and out of Sync after encodeing???
If so it could be from a couple of Different reasons most the most Common is that the audio in your AVI files is VBR MP3 which will allways cause the audio to go out of Sync after converting or encodeing the file to another format...
You will know if the audio is VBR MP3 if when you load it into Virtual-Dub you get an error message about the audio being VBR...
The way to fix this is to decompress the audio in your AVI files before encodeing it.....
You can use V-Dub to decompress the audio in your AVI file by setting the Video" to "Direct stream copy" and setting the "audio" to "Full Processing Mode" and then going to "file" to "Save As AVI" and saveing the File and the new File will have decompressed audio that will stay in sync after encodeing....

Mainconcept and dvd-lab pro works perfect i.c. with subtitles.
But when i have a movie, devided into two parts, how can i put them together. i don't work with a menu-structure, just the movie and apart the sub. Is it possible to decode a movie that fits on one dvdr instead of copying it on the expensive 8.5 gb ?

Well Yes...DVDLab pro has a Feature in it were if your Project is Too big for a Standard 4.38gb DVD then it can Compress the files so they are small enought to fit on a Single DVD....
If you go to the "Tools" menu in DVDLab Pro you will Find Tool called "Reduce Mpeg Size" which you can use to Quickly Compress the Video so it is a Bit Smaller so it fits on a DVD-R....
But if the File you are working with is say 7gb or Bigger you would be better off useing a Good Quality Standalone encoder to conpress the File size which will produce Much Better Quality than useing the Fast Transcodeing Technique that DVDLab Uses.....

How to get 1 complete and then transform into

I"m not sure how you would Join Subtitles together accept with somehting like "Subtitle Workshop" but if you just need to join 2 AVI files together you can do it with "Virtual-Dub" .....

Hello Minion,
when i'm transcoding a movie with dvdlab pro
the noise isn't synchronous to the movie.
with the original isn't anything wrong.
what can i do about it.

It´s possible to join subtitles and to resync subs (like if you had subs in 25 fps-PAL and your movie was in 29.97 fps-NTSC) with subtitle workshop. As a matter of fact this past weekend I was absorbed doing that with a movie.
I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...

DVDLab Pro Doesn do anything to your Video , There is No Transcodeing or encodeing or Compression of any Sort because it doesn"t have a Built in encoder (Unless you are useing the Shrink File Size Feature) all it does is Multiplex your audio and Video files into VOB files which should not Cause any sync Problems....
Have you watched the Mpeg-2 file before you authored it to DVD with DVDLab to make sure it is In Sync....
Also what are the Source of your Files and how did you create them???
