if they say "Made in Japan" on them, they are. They will also be in a different style cakebox. (typical Taiyo Yuden style cakebox)

Only if it's in DVD+R format with "MADE IN JAPAN" on the spindle cover. Additionally, when you check it with "Nero's Toolkit" and "DVD Decrypter" and its id code is YUDEN000-T02-00, then it is absolutely and genuinely Taiyo Yuden for sure. My "FUJI 8X DVD+R" is code: YUDEN000 ? T02 ? 00. FUJI/Taiyo Yuden is a top notch media -- other top class medias are Verbatim, Maxell and SONY, these are highly rank in the first class as well, in my opinion.

I prefer the +Rs over any ?Rs or in another term I?ll take any ?Made In Japan? over any that says; ?Made In Taiwan? any day.

IHoe- TYG02's are indeed manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, I believe you misunderstand the thread. Just because they are stamped with Fuji doesn't mean Taiyo Yuden didn't make them!

yes, i was just about to correct you there IHOE~ but as akyllonen stated, TYGO2 is DEFINITELY Taiyo Yuden; however, it is also THE most commonly FAKED TY code on the market today; i myself have quite a few of the FAKE ONES w/ the exact same coding.

@liquidusx

from my own experience in buying Fuji branded media, lately, it's been VERY VERY difficult to find the dash 8x media that are MADE IN JAPAN- i have a few spindles that i picked up last year Fuji dvd-r 8x and they ARE in fact Taiyo Yudens, but, i can tell you one thing FOR SURE...if it's MADE IN TAIWAN, you are GUARANTEED they are NOT Taiyo Yuden:) i hope that is clear...regardless of label or branding (ie. fuji/sony/tdk/memorex) IF it is made in taiwan, you WILL NOT get genuine Taiyo Yudens.

BUT, i am definitely NOT saying that made in taiwan media is bad~ let me make that perfectly clear now if another flamewar is going to begin cuz of this...Verbatims now are PRIMARILY 90%+ MADE IN TAIWAN and are EXCELLENT media in either format~ i use dvd+r because they are flawless for my OWN setup, but, the dvd-r is equally as good in the 8x flavor.

i ALSO have had great success w/ Ritek G05s 8x dvd-r, ALSO made in taiwan, this is a personal comment, others have had problems, but i for one have had NONE...in my opinion, a 2nd attribute to nullify the fallacy that "media made in taiwan sucks".

if you are looking locally for genuine TY media, i for the most part agree with the comments here in the thread, but BE CAREFUL, as if TY is the ONLY media you are willing to use, THEN and ONLY THEN, will the "made in japan/made in taiwan" debate apply. GENUINE TYs are NEVER made in taiwan~ that i know for a fact, since my FAKE TYs are, you guessed it, made in taiwan and they are comparable in quality w/ CMC MAG/MEMOREX crap~ :) i also have confirmed this w/ my TY rep of North America, i keep correspondence with them weekly to verify what i write on here about TY...i take the time to really do my research concerning TY, so, i hope you will see that i get my facts straight before i blab it all over AD regarding TY~ yes, i have been incorrect before, but i openly apologized for my mistake and have since checked and double checked my findings regarding TY w/ my representative that works for TY North America~ :)

hope that sheds SOME light on the subject for you, sincerest apologies if i am unclear...haven't slept in almost 2 days~ :)

I'm 100% agree with Kivory on this. Genuine TY are "MADE IN JAPAN" period. Ey...Kiv, so when do I get to be your Captain, cause it's obvious and you can tell that I'm a TY/FUJI user here, myself.

hey the only reason why I said that those Fuji's are not Taiyo Yuden is because of this!

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediadvdridsearch=TYG02....

all these disks are not Taiyo Yuden disks! ok........ so check to see the MADE IN JAPAN label is on there! Also notice that all of these disks are DVD-Rs that's what I was talking about! All these disks can not be Taiyo Yuden disk from Japan! otherwise TYs would not be high on the list as great 1st class media! Aren't these the fake ones??? If they are not, then I'm confused and I never seen a Fuji DVD+R manufacturer ID as TYGO2! I could be wrong or maybe DigitalFAQ.com should update their list! http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

hehehe...alkohol, you are now officially my captain~ :)
i think aabbccdd was speaking on MY behalf with the push up thing :)

@ihoe

always use those media guides as a GUIDE~ yes, those dvd-r there are MOSTLY FAKES from that list~ :) you are correct in assuming that~
the dvd+r in fuji/sony MADE IN JAPAN, are for the most part lately, genuine TYs~

as i said, genuine TYs are ONLY MADE IN JAPAN, if you purchased some of those other brands and received the TYG02 coding by checking w/ a dvd identifyer program(8x dvd-r format) THEN you would have to look into it further by checking out the coding on the inner hub...for THOSE it should be GG000xxx (xxx being the batch number from factory). there are many factors that lie in authenticating genuine TYs...i can imagine that from that list in your link, many of those so called "tygo2"s are NOT made in japan, either taiwan, india, malaysia, hong kong, etc...those are not the "real deal".

hope that clarifies it a bit, i meant in no way to offend you ihoe, im here to gently correct, not to condemn~ :) i have had a LOT of experience with TYs, both real and fake, so, im just letting people know the differences between them~ have a good one. :)

hey there was no offense taken at all! I was just getting confused with talk about fake TYs and real TYs.... I didn't know that Fuji is now a good brand IF THEY ARE MADE IN JAPAN! You see...... I learn things everyday here! Keep it coming! I am going to test out the new Verbatims VideoGuard! I'll report back in when I burn one!
see if the are up to snuff! as the box says!

good good~ i'm glad you are learning ihoe, i try to keep it friendly around here as i just offer my advice after thorough testing on my part and confirmation from my OWN PERSONAL burning and purchasing experiences, just lately the Fuji MADE IN JAPANS ONLY in either format have been TY (dvd-r =TYG02 and dvd+r= YUDEN000T02), the made in taiwans are definitely NOT.

but i don't want anyone to misconstrue that statment as i do consider made in taiwan media to be great (some of it, not ALL), if you consider the MCC Verbatims and even the Ritek G05s that i PERSONALLY have had flawless backups with as well.
let us know about those new verbs, they look very good~ :)

 ... Yeah ... Poor us, I hate this town ... I've lived here for about 3 years after living in San Diego for 21 years ... Wow! What a culture shock ... Which Best Buy do you use? I go to Muncie - It's kinda small compared to what I'm used to in Ca ... But Castleton is too far away and the traffic is worse ... As soon as Guide shuts down, I'm going to talk the wife into moving to either So Cal again or maybe Nevada ...
