@catfreak,

If both of them said; "Made In Japan", then it's obvious that they're genuine Taiyo Yuden, so you can't go wrong with that. However, I personally prefer the 8X DVD+R "YUDEN000-T02-000" better due to the fact that I can booktype it into a dvd-rom format, which it will make my 3 1/2 years old all regions Shinco dvd player to read/play easily.

In addendum to your post about Ca., damn.... I sure am reminisce all those good old days when I used to live in Fresno, Ca. It's a small town with enough of electronics and medias stores available everywhere. It's super hot around these times, but decent enough to live because it will cool down later on the night. It's about 2 hrs to Frisco and 4 1/2 hrs to San Diego. I sure miss all those sweet crabing days at the "Golden Gate Bridge" and the San Diego Zoo. Unfortunately, now I'm stuck in this cold @ss state aka 10,000 lakes -- well, it ain't too bad either due to the variety of jobs, I guess.

funny how we all COME BACK together here on AfterDawn, ironically, i was born and raised in Indiana~ :) bout an hour's drive from chicago, went to school in Valparaiso like 20 years ago~ :) hahaha, but now reside in LA, California...go down to San Diego sometimes...etc.etc..

this thread makes me reminisce bout them days...anyways, yeah..alkohol (being my newest TY captain), what he said i agree with, IF you can find the MADE IN JAPAN ones, then BOTH will be genuine TY, i prefer the dvd+r YUDEN000T02 myself as i also booktype and every standalone i've threw it at, it plays just fine~ compatibility is a big issue in my backups as i give/lend to friends too~ but, it comes down to Fuji and where they are made...the japan ones, at least here in LA, CA, have been TYs~ :)

i usallay go to munice also . because castleton traffic is way to bad. but sometimes i use that store since i buy all my music at Vibes Music on 82nd street.
As of late though i been buying all my blank media online at meritline.com or supermedia store.com.
the TY media is under 33 bucks a 100 .and ive had very good luck with it.
yes guide will probably be gone within 2 years or so ,thats the word anyway, which will be the final death nail to this town.
so going west is a great idea.

i still stay on topic and i always comment on the fuji media from bestbuy in every one of my posts, it's just nice to see people's opinion from their OWN local bestbuys and what they get around the country, regarding TYs or other company manufactured discs :) when buying fuji, SOME PEOPLE have received prodisc, richjpn, etc. depending on if it's made in taiwan; it's good to see what people get around the country as this is generally a pretty good indication to what to look for when purchasing. :)

all y'all TY godz got some ideas here?

I went and scored 2 100pks of the Fuji TY DVD+R's at bb last week,
so far I have opened one up, and the first couple on top had that
'speckling' on the underside, so I went and grabbed a few from a little ways down, no speckles, but these burns are NOT favorably comparable to the last batch of Fuji TY's (at least by kprobe scanning) that I got last fall when BB had the sale on 50pk Fuji's at the same time CC had a buy one get one free deal...anyhoo, if you are familiar with kprobe, I was getting "average" totals of like 10 to 50 MAXIMUM with those ( -R's ) but now with these +R's they are up in the 400-500 range, and I just had two that I burned give me a few (GASP) errors.
Which has NEVER happened to me before, in ANY of the TY's I have burned. The # on the hub is TG001159, if that helps.

As you can imagine, I am getting a little frustrated.

I got a 50 Pack of Fuji TYG-02 dash media at B.J.s Wholesale Club for 20.00USD no specs of dye, just great discs. They are not on sale there, that is the normal price. They have had them for a month.

@daimyo

perhaps you got yourself on a bad batch? i dunno, i still have my fuji TYs from MONTHS ago as well, i haven't purchased any recently to test out...seems like as of late people have been running into "Bad batches", i have no clue as to what is going on in the manufacturing process or perhaps the repackaging under the fuji label; but i guess even Taiyo Yuden have a "few bad apples" every now and then? the kprobe results do not sound so good, but, i have had varying levels of success on different burners i used to scan them with~ may i ask, what burner are you using and what speed are you burning at to produce these "errors" you speak of?

it might just be coincidence or it might warrant further investigation, but, let me know as i have enough blank media now to last most people several lifetimes, so i have not personally purchased any more recently~ guess the "good ones" were from before? i haven't had any problems with the ones from earlier this year either....

It's a lite on sohw 1693S, new. And I always burn at the indicated time level on the media...in this case 8X.

And yes, bad batches do happen, they seem to be more and more common now than they were last year at this time tho?

yea...seems like it doesn't it? i burn ALL my TY media @8x too~ :) i think it might be a faulty batch, sorry to say...

i am not familiar with the newest of the liteon drives, so, don't know about that one (no personal experience to add to my suggestion) :)
