My computer is super old, and im thinking of getting a new one just so it can encode, and buffer a dvd movie faster because currently my PC goes about 800-900kbs. So it takes about 2hrs to encode plus burning time. Im not giving my computer specs because you guys might say "damn, you should've updated your system a long time ago." How fast can a pentium 4 at say 3Ghz shrink a lets say 8 gig movie?
Full back up burning at 8 x with no multi tasking: approx 30- 35 mins.
This time would also include no video quality enhancement settings and options in Shrink. RAM would also need to be 512mb or better.
The one I used to use awhile ago was an Aptiva maybe 500 something mhz with 128 ram - 3 - 1/2 hours total to encode and burn at 4x.
Sorry for any confusion - I was talking about an 8 gig movie encoding & burning at 8x should take about 35 mins (give or take a few) with those specs and 512 ram.
As a comparison to binkie7, my pc is about 4-5 years old and is a 1.5gz, 512mb ram and using DDDecrypter/Shrink it takes about 90-100 minutes start to finish (depending on the length of the movie. Using AnyDVD/CloneDVD2, I save about 15 minutes. I'm pretty well satisfied at this point.
I can usually complete the rip in about 15 minutes or so then I burn it at 4x in about 15 minutes. Some movies rip faster some slower. It seems makes a difference if the original is clean and without scratches. I don't get errors but I notice the ROM slows down over bad spots. Anyone else notice that?
