HELP!!! PLEASE, HELP!!! I have had my PS2 for only 4 months, and it's broke! I think my son may have let it drop to the ground a few times, but that is the only thing I can think of that may have damaged it.

Unit: PS2 Slim, SCPH-70012

Problem: Will not play PS2 games or DVD's of any type. Will play PS1 games.

I called Sony. They tell me to send the unit back (although it's out of the 90 day war.) and they will replace with a refurbished unit. Well, I'm not having that.

I am a little experienced with modding and electronics, as I have modded my XBox, slightly.

From what I have read, it's one of two problems (please correct of needed)...

1. My DVD ROM could be out of alignment and I need to check the cogs? If this is it, how do I find out the original positioning of the cog(s)? Are there any markers on the cog that will assist me, or is it all trial and error? (no, i'm not willing to go that far).

2. The POTS have been screwed up. Again, I know how to reposition the POTS (in theory) but how do I know just how to align them?

I guess I am curious to know if anyone knows of a FAQ or Tutorial on such an issue. Maybe I will get lucky and one of you know just what I need to do...

Either way, I'm going nuts without my GT4. Someone please help. And thank you very, very much!

I dunno, but it's also possible that the dvd laser is messed up.

Just send it to SONY and let them give you a refurbished system. I had the same problem a year ago with my Xbox but I sent it back and they gave me a refurbished one and it worked perfectly.
