just because im mad? nice and mature...

this topic has been discussed by people far more technically adept than you or i, and no solution has been found.

maybe people are working on it, but as of now its impossable, meaning at this moment, you cant downgrade.

I am glad to see people working on getting homebrew to run on later versions of the PSP firmware. I think the hack of older 1.0 or 1.5 firmware to trick the PSP into thinking it's something later is a great idea, but I think there needs to be a better way in the long run. Yeah you will be able to run homebrew, but what about backed up games? Games that scan requiring firmware 2.0 or later? We need to find a way to make all versions of the firmware code boot PSP_Compatable code from any location, i.e.: memory stick, or remote share.

It took the PS2 hackers years to make a mod chip for the PS2, but it was done. The PSP doesn't really have a DRM, so this should not be too complicated to figure out, I just suspect that not enough groups or people are interested enough to hack the psp. But give it time. ;)

I'm keeping my PSP at firmware version 1.52 and waiting to see what happens. I would downgrade if possible, just to see if it could be done... and then re-upgraded if I "needed" to. :)

Read this above:

"sony has announced that sony's psp version 2.00 firmware will contain dnas so no more illegal copys online"

Just a question: What are/is "dnas"???

Also, us continuing to ask for help to downgrade would show others that there are people who want to figure this whole thing out... Don't get mad about people asking for help or even trying to add some kind of solution/attempt, some stupid thing one of us No Tech Schmoes type, could give someone else an Idea... You know, the whole Moldy Cheese into Penicillin thing...

Though, I think a UMD burner would be easier ;) Just think about that... then nobody would really have to worry about firmware. Does anyone know if there is a burner on the market? All of the 3rd party companies that make games for the PSP have a UMD writer/presser... how could we get our hands on one of those?

I have a PSP with version 1.52 on it. Although separate from this, for some stupid reason i thought you had to have version 1.51 on your PSP to run homebrew apps on your PSP, I had read the requirements wrong. Back to the topic, I reupdate it, then it says i'm running version 1.51. does that mean anything?

Ok, I just came up with an idea...
Sony is the creater of the UMD and the MD.
What if it was possible to hardmod a MD-player to read UMD's, then we could extract the game ISO's and movies and more on the UMD by using a NET-MD player from sony?

You know, I've been thinking of the same thing... well sort of. I knew Sony made MD discs, players and writers. In fact I think there was a model with a USB connection to the PC. Maybe somebody out there has tried to use a UMD with a MD data drive? Just to see if it was readable? Does anyone know the differences between MD and UMD other than the case the UMD comes in?

When i bought my PSP I never knew what version it was then, but I updated it, to version 1.52. After that, like I said I thight you needed version 1.51. All I did was download the version 1.51 update
transfer it to the update folder and replace the version 1.52 EBOOT file with version 1.51 EBOOT file, on my memory stick, went to the Game catagory(where you press X to select and start the UMD) select Memory Stick pressed X to access the Memory Stick, the EBOOT file shows up. Ofcourse not named EBOOT, but rather PSP Update ver 1.51, pressed X on that, then it does that PSP screen change like it does when you start a game. Then on the screen it says "PSP System Software Version 1.51" and it gave me the option to install so I did and I was running version 1.51. I had gone back to install version 1.52 since I found out that 1.51 did not work. I tried to install 1.51 again so i could write specifically what it said but it did not let me. It said that a later version was already installed and that there was no need to update. So either you can only downgrade(update to a lower version) once or you have to install later updates directly from the PSP Network Update option only, because thats what i did when I went from 1.50 to 1.52(I think I skipped 1.50, I only updated once and started running version 1.52, I checked, mainly to see if I was running version 1.50, after that was when I downloaded version 1.51, like I said I read the instructions wrong. Although my PSP might have come with version 1.51. I never checked what version it was in the beggining, but I only updated once and I was running version 1.52) because I never installed version 1.51. When I reupdated back to version 1.52 I manually downloaded the EBOOT file and transfered it to my PSP and manually installed version 1.52. After that I again tried to downgrade and that's when it would not let me. I had manually downgraded to version 1.51 meaning I did not use the automatic Network Update option on the PSP. Im not sure what reason it was, maybe it was just a glitch, but either way I was running 1.51. Im just waiting until they crack 2.0, they will.

About finding the version 1.50 whatever you want to call it, when you install a PSP update you first transfer/download it to the Memory Stick and it will always be on there until you delete it maybe 1.50 is still on the Memory Stick. Although I remember on my Memory Stick, when I first bought it the Memory Stick was empty I think. If it was empty then the EBOOT file is probably not there, if it was not empty and the EBOOT file is on the Memory Stick you can take the 1.50 EBOOT file and put it on the computer.
Once version 2.0 comes out I'll use the Network Update option on the PSP to upgrade to 2.0 and try to downgrade again, although the 2.0 update might prevent against this.

Ok, I didn't know, but the MD format is only 140MB. Well, there are many versions of MD.

MD-1 - 140MB
MD-2 - 650MB (a variant of MD)
HI-MD - 1GB
UMD - 1.8GB

So it looks like we can't crack open a PSP game and read it with any of those data readers. There there was software out there, that would let you boot the PSP into a dummy/maintenance mode activating the USB connection to your PC and then allowing you to read the game (rip) to your hard drive, now that would be cool. I think there is something like that already however. Sombody's got to come out with a UMD burner.... mwahaha - evil laugh.

That's nothing new. But you have to have 1.00 1.50 or 1.51 versions of the PSP firmware.

My bad, maybe it's just "homebrew" like emulators and what not that you can run with 1.51 still. I know nothing works for 1.52 as of now. Bottom line - we need a 2.00 hack!

Wanna know why to update? It is possible that JP 2.0 Firm will be cracked sooner than US. It should be done by those who got 1.5.1 or later. I sadly updated to 1.5.1 so now im getting JP 2.0 and wait for it to be cracked. US firmware will take much longer to crack since its not even out yet not until 8/27.

emmmmmmmmmm, well you might aswell so upgrade and make use of the browser which is pretty good but homebrew apps would probably be more useful!! basically reason to upgrade to 2.0 if u have 1.51 is you dnt have the browser and you have lost the capability of homebrew anyway. goodluck as for which version will get hacked first, GOD knows....it good be either..i'd even say it will get hacked when it hits europe

I think i have the solution to the downgrade problem!

I recently spent about a week searching for an EBOOT of the 1.5 version. To downgrade my psp. Before i tried the downgrade on the actual console, i did it in an emu. When the emu continued to play homebrew i put the EBOOT file on to my MemStick and selected update... After around 10 mins, i went back to it and it said
"You Have Successfully Upgraded System Software From: 1.5.2 TO: 1.5.0. For Changes To Take Effect You Must Restart Your Console."!!!
When i restarted it i was able to play homebrew again!

PS: This was a PAL console and not NTSC. If you damage your console using this downgrade method i will not be help responsible!!!

Troy....if you can prove this you will be hailed as the KING of PSP for ever..but what you say is worthless without any concrete evidence. Supply the files, get some pics out or or a video to prove it. Also where did you get this eboot file from? is it modified and by whom? y dnt you put a link to this file so I can grab it and also the emu you tried it on. If its true what you say I will try it on my PSP and will make sure you get full credit for this.

Hey wouldnt it just be easier to crack 2.0 and put emus on it than making a complex program that would reset it back to 1.5 or 1.0
