Mods - dont know if this breaks forum rules - if so, please delete

So, I know there has been speculation about whats going on with dvd decrypter/lighting uk and his site being shut down

My friend who uses macrovision on his DVD productions was talking to the macrovision rep, and the rep told him that macrovision indeed did sue dvd decrypter, and because they/he dont have the cash to fight the law suit, he just lost by default -

There were a few thread about DVD Decrypter being shut down. Posted was a statement from Lightning_UK explaining why.

It is really really safe to say you can count DVD Decrypter out.

Lightning_Uk is in the UK and they have laws against software like that ... was just a matter of time. And I don't think he's going to relocate ;)

thing is DVD Decrypter is associated with Lightning_UK ... even if someone was able to get Decrypter and run with it, I don't think it would be called DVD Decrypter.

there will be replacements, but nothing that is the same. Although with AnyDVD DVD Decrypter is still the best ripper out there.

just a piece of my mind - considering i have a very large "original" dvd collection; sum 10 years now, averaging a minimum of 3 per month - there are always the must haves - and considering the everyday fact that you must loan your movies to your friends and family - heaven forbid they "scratch!!!" them - i've invested a $hit load of time & money on backing them all up. let's round it off to about . . . 3,000.
personally i feel i have the right to protect MY investment. the day the "Industry" takes away the privilege . . . i stop buying them altogether. heck, i've got digital cable, DVR, etc. not to mention my Library of DVDs (and the free showings on many military bases). . . i'm sure i'll be content.
My only advice to others who read this, is . . . don't invest your $'s where there not appreciated.
on the other side of it - those who ONLY copy movies illegaly, that's not MY problem.
i was a little upset when i picked up a movie yesterday (19th), to find out that i am unable to back it up, and store the original. i returned it (you gotta love costco - ofcourse it helps that i know most of them). i guess what i'm saying is . . . . i am very P!$$*% off about it.
And i refuse to give the INDUSTRY any more of my money . . . untill they can come up with an agreed upon method for the public to use . . . and prevent those who insist on profitting off of it. i can go down to the "Ally's" (streets in L.A. where many things are sold dirt cheap, for those who do not know the term) and see many people selling "bootlegs" right there in the open.
i'm not the LAW, so i can care less.
But why are they able to sell so freely? without fear? because the law is not being enforced against those whom intended, but instead, against ME.

ZERO

??? It's much easier to enforce the law against law abiding citizens than against criminals ??? Just think, if enough laws are passed, we'll all become criminals by default ???
