can you burn the start menu on the disk aswell? If so, how?

I use dvd decr and shrink

With Shrink if you are backing up the whole disk yes, if you are using re-author no. You can in full disk mode substitute still images for extras and other material and then keep just the movie and the menu.

Yes but you will have to copy entire disc with DVD Shrink. Reauthor renders menu unfunctional.

I agree, CloneDVD is the easiest for reauthoring, and being able to preserve menus, you can use the trial version but after that it is pay.
