Sub files are seperate from Vob's. If you rip in file mode, you'll see all of them seprately.

ifo's are information files that tell your player where to start, stop, etc. bup's are just more information files.
If pete will forgive me for borrowing his excellent answer (the same one you could have found if you had done a search), look at this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/168794

Just curious, but can anyone tell me what BUP is an acronym for?

it's acronym for Backup i believe, it's a backup file for the IFO file, and the IFO file stores chapters, subtitles and audio and that's how the subs got in......

The IFO is for information and contains all the sector information/menu/chapter/audio to where it is located on the dvd.

The BUP is the backup of the IFO and contains the same information.
eg.should you have a corrupt IFO, then you can just rename the relative BUP to IFO and have a fully functioning IFO again, but you will still need to retain the BUP in order to burn a dvd compliant file structure. (copy and paste and rename)

The VOB stands for Video Object and contains all the video/audio/subtitle streams - multiplexed into one group - VOB

We have a glossary section here at Afterdawn at the top of the page, unfortunately it does not contain the BUP information but basically what I wrote above....................

No worries, you were correct in what you were saying regarding the ifo's.
Basically the IFO is the main directory of all the points where the data is located.

This is where I learned, and most of the members aswell.
