the bottoms of the disk really dont matter as far as lightscribe go. that's just the standard for dvds.
do you still have the package or a manaf. number or something from the packaging? did it have any labels?

yes it will be blank on top... but it will be somewhat of a dark mustard yellow color. like that link i posted before.

right.. and there would be no type of logo on the disc itself.. the only thing it would be on the disk would be the one right in the middle. they actually have the little lightscribe logo on the middle of the disc.

for 100 of the verbatims i got them off of www.newegg.com

and the other 100 off of amazon.com

i think newegg i got a mail in rebate that basically made the 100 pack 25 bucks maybe? And i got 100 on amazon for i think 30 i believe

ones on newegg were dvd-r and amazon were dvd+r

dvd-r and dvd+r any difference if u want to lightscribe?

the media itself i've only seen it in (+). the only reason i said that was b/c some ppl still may not have dual format burners..
i actually just realizedthat if its a lighscribe burner, it should be dual format.

i'm out

$1 a piece plus shipping. Not Verbatim though. It's crappy HP, which could be Philips or CMC.

Is it possible to burn the LightScribe media on a normal drive, say the Superdrive that comes with a G5, then just use the LightScribe drive to do the image work? Of course I'm referring to 4.7 media.

ok... to burn the dvd itself, yes... you can use the superdrive..
the superdrive does not care about the label itself... its just going to be the dvd burner.

but of course you are going to need to use the lightscribe to do the labels.

Good, good . . . yes, that's all I care about. If, as I've seen in places, the LS drive has problems burning good media, I can shift just the burning part to the G5 and use the LS for just artwork. Haven't received the drive (LaCie DL) yet, but pre-bought Verbatim 4.7s on eBay and am looking forward to seeing just how well this works. Can I do the artwork in Photoshop? Is there a primer anywhere on what d.p.i./color mode etc. to use, or do I just go by trial and error?

Thanks in advance.

i was thinking of a way to state that Photoshop is the best one for this. but yes... use photoshop for the images... just a rule of thumb that i use... design it and get it all done... then turn it into "grayscale" and darken the image... that way it will look much better. if you leave in "color" then it will look too light... if i can get a my hands on a scanner... i can post the different ones i've done.

trust me on this one... i love my LaCie drive... the only companies making the LS drives... (that i know of)...: HP, LaCie, and BenQ.

ok... this one is confusing.. but here goes.
the only way to get the labels is by scanning them into the computer.
once they are in the computer then you can resize them and fit them on to the label for the disk. what i suggest... is scan the media and then size that into the label printing software for the lightscribe.

i'm not sure if that answers that... but post again...

I use 2773 pixels x 2773 pixels (4.622 inches at 600 ppi), grayscale. This resolution will give you sharp text. Artwork you bring in doesn't need so much resolution. I've stretched 720 pixel wide pictures the entire width of my dvd template with good results. The non-printing center area is about 1.8 inches diameter. I save a copy as BMP format (Windows 8 bit). That seems to be the native format for Lightscribe. From the Lacie Lightscribe Labeler program I import my BMP file as a background image. The image comes in perfectly centered.

I always double burn the Lightscribe image for better contrast. I takes an hour to do that but looks much better than a single burn.

Hmm . . . yeah, I was interested in doing all the art myself, so scanning isn't too much of a worry. It's just important to know how high a resolution the drive burns at, so as not to waste time making it too fine. That said, 600 d.p.i. is twice what one needs for commercial offset printing, so that ought to assure the finest detail possible. Are there not registration problems if you burn the same thing twice? Or is the key not to even examine the disk after the first burn, but just burn it twice anyway? I guess I will find out. Thanks for the replies!

I think 600 dpi is the burn resolution. I use 600 dpi so that type and imported vector art will look sharp after rasterizing, which happens after saving as BMP. Imported raster art probably only needs to be about 150 dpi, about half required for imagesetting (commercial offset).

There are no registration issues whatsoever with burning twice. There are marks on the inner part of the DVD that the burner reads, and the burning is very precise. You can even add more art to your disk later as long as the new art is placed in an unburned area.

Back to the original topic of this thread...

I get mine at Wal-Mart. It is about $12 for a 10-pack of Verbatim Lightscribe DVD+R.
