Hello Gents
I recently bought some TY 4x -R dvd's and I can not get a good burn on them I have tried 6 disks and can't get it straight?? I am burning with nero and am having my problems at the start during the lead in...... I was using TDK 4x +r's before and never had any trouble with anything and still don't (writing to the TDK disks that is)
Any thoughts or suggestions? on what this problem could be?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible that you may have gotten them "fake" TY by accident. What is the id code on those 4X-R TY by chance and does it says "MIJ" on it? Personally, I prefer 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" over any -R, just a note that's all.

Also, make sure that your burner firmware is up to date.

I have looked into the "fake" dvd thing and by all accounts they are real (code GD000302) and as for my burner firmware... it is 2 weeks old and shouldn't need an update yet??

You can find LG firmware on LG homepages. Latest official LG firmware for GSA-4160B is A303. LG has a Windows GUI firmware updater that prompts users when a newer firmware is available on LG servers to install (or flash) it.

what firmware do you currently have? this is a little blurb i found regarding your drive model from "gooseman" on a different forum:

New Firmware (A303) for the GSA-4160B DVD Writer has appeared on the LG Australia Website (www.lge.com.au).

I've not yet installed this firmware, but according to the instructions, it provides:

- Additional DVD±R 8X codes:
DVD+R 8X: Beall, Daxon, Intermedia, Infodisc, MBI, MJC, NANYA, OPTODISC, SKC
DVD-R 8X: Vangurad, RITEK, OPTODISC, MUST, AMC, Infodisc, DAXON
- Improvement of DVD±RW rewriting ability

Not sure why but the instruction also says that it is meant for drives with original firmware versions BELOW A302.

might help if you try out the new A303 firmware that he is talking about~ good luck~
