Greetings all

just bought a Plextor external DVD Burner and no complaints at all!
l have been backing up some of my DVD collection using Shrink and Nero combo. when l re-author l simply transfer over the "Main Movie" and leave all the rest of the dross- again, no problem.

however when l then take my DVD-R (Imation) backup and try to do a straightforward disc copy onto another DVD-R, l keep getting this concentric cyclic error message when it gets about 80% through burn...
any ideas?

It sounds like the media that you are using has some bad sectors in it, how are you trying to burn the extra back up, I would switch from that media and go with TY or Verbs, I to have that Plextor burner and have no problems doing back ups with good media

Ken
Verb"s are number 1

cheers Kenneth

l've had no problems copying my original DVD films to these DVD-R's

it's when l take the DVD-R that just contains the Main Movie file (that incidentally works perfectly on my PC/TV DVD) and try to do a straightforward copy for copy using Nero - that's when the concentic cyclic error cuts in at about 80%

it's happened with a couple of the others

what it means is that l can only backup from the original and not another backup which is no big deal unless your Dad has left half of your originals at his holiday home in the south of bl***y Spain

Your problem is the Imation discs themselves.
Those disc usually have a media I.D. of CMC MAG,not the best stuff by a long shot.
When you trying to copy a backup thats on bad media, you will run into alot of problems, and it may be impossible to copy.

Like kenneth1 said, buy good media to start with, and you wont have problems copying a copy.

You could try configuring DVD Decrypter to ignore some read errors, but sometimes that wont even work.

definitely a media problem here...as both kenneth and jim stated, change to better media and your backup to backup problems might be resolved, naturally, i recommend TY and Verbs~too~ :)

imation discs are very poor in my opinion, while my imation CD-Rs still work fine, it's a completely diff. ballpark w/ dvd-r media~ :) just want to point you in the right direction before the bad media fairy gets her lil hands on you, then you will be in a world of hurt as ALL your past backups will no longer be able to play and you will have NO luck on backing them up/transferring them later on...

poor media degrades rapidly as i have some CMC MAG memorex that are no longer playable within 3 months~ :(

TY= Taiyo Yuden (make sure you get GENUINE/AUTHENTIC ones, REAL TYs are ONLY MADE IN JAPAN, there are fakes out there you need to be careful of)
