Hi there, I hope I can get the help I need here. I have a bunch of home movies, and actual movies from (mirc) on my pc.

i now want to burn them on to cd's (cdr's). I have been buring them with nero but can only burn them if they are in .iso or .cue format.

problem is most of the files i download and transfer from my camcorder are in .avi format. what can i use to convert these files to cue/bin files so i can burn them. i have a bunch of programs but none seem to convert avi to cue. and nero take hr's to encode and not even the same quality i recorded them at.

any help would be great. thanks

I may be a newb on this site but i know a few things so you can talk to me with out me asking huh, what how.
again thanks

There is No way of getting arround the Encodeing step because AVI is not the Format used to make VCD"s ,Mpeg-1 is the Format for VCD so your AVI files will have to be Encoded to Mpeg-1/VCD before you will be able to Burn them to CD-R but once they are encoded correctly you can Burn them in VCD format with Nero.....

The Encoder in Nero is awefull anyways and produces just awefull Quality and since the VCD format is so low quality anyways you can"t use a Crappy encoder....

The Best quality VCD encoder is Probably TMPGEnc and if you have a Fast enough PC(over 2.0ghz) you should be able to encode a 2 hour AVI file to Mpeg-1/VCD in less than an Hour.....

If you really want to get the very Best quality then I would suggest you Burn DVD"s as you will be able to retain more of the Quality and be able to Fit more Video on each disk and with the Cheap Price of DVD burners these days there is no excuse not to have one....

You can Find TMPGEnc in the software section of this site and if you Follow the Wizard and select VCD as your encodeing format then you shouldn"t have any problems.....

Cheers

thanks but i have the full version of TMPGenc, I guess i'll get a dvd burner over the weekend, i have divx copy Platnium so i can use that , anyone use that progam , what are your thoughts on it.

oh p.s. i figured out i can use Winavi video converter to transfer the .avi files to vcd, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, dvd and svcd files with the full version (also have)... god i love mirc. :) anyway just thought i'd prove you wrong. oh the quality that you burn your files at depends on the quality that you recieve them at. if you recieved a dvdrip then you're getting dvd quality this i know for a fact.

If you still want to make (S)VCD's, encode the avi's in tmpgenc, then select the (S)VCD template in Nero to burn.
You do not need bin/cue's.

You've distorted your facts.
A DVDRip from one release group can be as poor as a nuked CAM release from another. I'll not name names here, but it seems the most popular IRC release group is also the one that puts out the worst quality.
Check out http://www.vcdquality.com and read the reviews on the releases before downloading.

Use whatever encoder you like. My point still stands, you can directly burn the mpg to disk in Nero, without creating bin/cue.

A DVD Rip you download off of the Net isn"t DVD Quality in the First Place so there is no way to get a DVD Quality Movie out of it...

As soon as the Original DVD is Compressed to DivX or XviD format so you can Download it the Quality gets greatly reduced....

Cheers

If you are Downloading Mpeg-2/Vob files or DVD Images that are about 5gb or Larger then Yes you Might be Downloading the actual DVD but if you are Downloading Mpeg files in the 100mb to 2gb Range then they have to be Compressed to get them that small and no matter what type of compression is used and how good it looks it still looses some Quality and there is no way arround it...
I might not work at BestBuy but I did go to Broadcasting school for 2 years and have been working as a Video editor over 8 years so I know a Little Bit about Digital Video.....

Anyways there is absolutly no way a VCD will have DVD quality anyways because VCD uses 1/4 the resolution and less than 1/4 the bitrate of DVD and it uses Mpeg-1 which is a Lower quality format than Mpeg-2....
a VCD and a DVD might look the Same in Quality to the Untrained eye and on a Small TV set but if they were in reality the same quality then VCD would be a Much more popular Format......

Well it is Odvious that you know absolutly nothing about Digital video or you wouldn"t be makeing such rediculous statements without backing them up with imperical Evidence which would be Impossible anyways because what you are saying Goes against the laws of Physics but if you Believe the Earth is Flat and that the Sun revolves arround the Earth then I am not going to spend any more time Trying to convince you otherwize........

Like RebootJim says once you have been doing this stuff for a while you will realize what we say is True.....

Cheers
