i don't think anyone can HONESTLY tell you how long it will last, but to answer your initial question in the title, NO if the memorex disc you are using uses CMC MAG as the manufacturer~ :)

from my own user experience as well as countless others here on AD as well as around the world, memorex has quickly become THE MOST DESPISED dvd media disc around because they choose to use a crappy manufacturer CMC MAG (CMC Magnetics) as their supplier. their standards for dvd media being sold to distributors is mediocre at best, nothing compared to the HIGH standards set by MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp) and TY (Taiyo Yuden). i hope this answers your question about memorex...i wouldn't trust memorex with ANY of my backups let alone IMPORTANT data that i want to use/save for many years to come...

i believe i touched upon your other thread about longevity as well~ :)

@Fusionice - in addition to Kivory666's exellent explanation of Memorex/CMC, pls visit the 2nd link in my signature, and take note of how i've referred to it -
Quote:
..Memorex/CMC - don't let them near your Burner.....
plus this is what i also think
Quote:
Verbatim DataLifePlus & a few Taiyo Yuden (TYG02) are the ONLY media allowed near my Burners.

NO. Even if you get a batch that isn't manufactured by cmc mag, you will eventually. Memorex around here is a four letter word.

Memosux?

LMAO!

Even their RW'S suck!

Get some good stuff like ty/verbatim data life plus. It will prevent a lot of issues later on down the road.

can't say I blame you on the knock of memorex, but is the most readily available disk around here without going to online stores(which cost more), and have never had a single problem with them. (with exceptionof my own screw-ups on the R's. the RW's have worked great for at least 11 months. A bit before I found this forum in order to save me some money on coasters
I am noy sure of the longevity of info stored nor the difference between disks.
I would suggest you try a variety of disks, for the simple reason that different player/recorders react differently to different media.
Back to duration? Ask one of the "old Timers" - - Scubapete, Neph, and others that have some real time on the subject.......
Best what works for YOU !!

You're welcome nero63,

The reason you haven't had any problems with your "memosux" is because you got lucky and got a batch made by ricohjpn which is 2nd class media. That brings up another reason why memorex sux. Not only do they buy a lot of their media from cmc mag but you never know who manufactured it from batch to batch. Eventually (usually) you are going to get cmc mag which is the lowest form of media made. Memorex doesn't make any of their own media, they buy from the lowest bidder.

Phillips is a different story. Media that is identified as being manufactured by phillips (sony dvd+rw media code phillips 041 is a good example) is IMO very good media but you have to be careful because just because it is branded as phillips doesn't mean it is manufactured by phillips. More times than not it will be made by another manufacturer, one of them being cmc mag. For that reason I don't recommend phillips branded media.

Lesson #1 to be learned - "stay far away" from Shitmorex period. I agree with all of the above replies. Taiyo Yuden/FUJI, Maxell and SONY (all 8X DVD+R "MADE IN JAPAN") for me all the way. Verbatim is another top notch media, it's quality is as great as the TY, Fuji, Maxell and Sony as well.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.
