This seems to only happen to me on backing up a TV Series disc with multiple episodes. Recently on backing up my copies of Boomtown and Star Trek:TNG the third episode on each disc has reached a chapter point during playback and sticks there. Sometimes it will stick for a few second then jump back to a previous chapter point and resume playing. Other times I cane fastforward through the stickyness and resume playing.

This does not seem to happen on normal movie backups. How do I fix this and what is causing the problem?

Thanks,
McSterls

I'm using RITEK RIDATA 8x disc, which seem to work great on everything but these last two attempts.

I'm not real big on Ritek media anymore, but it should be good enough.
What are you using to back these up ie. what sofware?
These episodic disc take alot of compression....maybe your using too much for the software your using?
Also have you tried backing up a normal movie since you started having problems?

Are you using stick on labels?

I'm not using labels, just a Sharpie Marker, Movies work fine I did a few this weekend. I use DVD Decrypter then Shrink to compress and Nero to burn.

The compression could be the answer, I'm not changing any settings except to tighten up the menus, otherwise I'm at about 58% on the episodes.

What do you think?

Thats quite a bit of compression for DVD Shrink.
Anytime I have that much, I use a retail program, like DVDRB/CCE or Intervideo Dvdcopy3,Nero recode, or even DVD2One.
I'm not saying for sure this is your problem, but one way to find out would be to split one of those dvds onto 2 discs, just to see if your problem goes away.
Or you could try a trial version of one of the above programs I mentioned.

58% IMO is to much with SHrink, but are you making sure you are using the enhancments provided in Shrink before you backup your movie? You might want to split up your episodes onto a couple of disk's. That is how I do my episodic DVD's. You will get perfect quality if you want to know how to do that check out this guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Making%20a%20episode%20DVD%20with...

Or you might need to try something that is a little more powerfull at encoding like DVD Copy 3..

Cheers

Thanks!

I'll try both methods and see what happens. Thanks for the thread link too.
