PS2 won't read discs......Please Help

I get the browser screen when I turn the ps2 on, even with the disc in. When I open and close the cd tray....It says reading discs just for a couple of seconds but then does nothing. Doesn't say disc read error or anything. Can someone please tell me what the problem may be without referring me to a PS2 repair website that takes money. I would very much appreciate it.

sorry but it sound like the lazer has gone m8. one cheep method it to buy a new lazer or a faulty ps2 (as long as the lazer is working) on ebay.
