1 out every 3 burns that i make has errors, for some reason it seems that burned copy has skips i guess, where on the back of the disk u can see different shades. my friends suggested burning at a lower speed, which i have done and i am still having the same problem, but the thing is that my burner is only a week old, its a sony dual layer 16x, for now im guessing that the burner itself has a defect, can someone pls help me out

If you are burning any faster than 4x you can expect trouble even on a 16x burner. The other most likely problem is the blank media you are using. Verbatim appears to be the most highly regarded media manufacturer on this site, Memorex although widely avialable has the worst reputation. My first suggestion is try different media. I'm sure some other experienced members will jump in here and offer their advice.

Go here http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru510adwn.htm and use the brand media sony has tested. I have a sony drive DRU710A It burns very well to +R verbatum, tiyo yuden, maxell. I do not know why but with -R this drive seems to create more errors on the disk, although tiyo yuden looks pretty good. I do not burn faster than 6X. Any thing more than that you can see the errors go way up using Nero speed test. Also Your player can possibly be the problem, some players play +R and -R fine. Some play one or the other better. You will have to experiment with +/-R on your player. My xbox seems to have problems with +R media for example. After reading lots of reviews and test on burners, and you do decide to trade this one end. Personally I think it's hard to beat the pioneer drive when it comes to quality burns. They where the first that I can remember coming out with dvd burner so they have been producing dvd buners for quite a while now. Plextor seems to be really fast ripper and burner middle of the road for quality, Like everyone else it took them quite a few firmware upgrades to get quality to where it should be.

Good Luck
