Ps2 Disc wont open; stays in Stand by mode

My PS2 is a 50001 Verson 9

Althought it does power up , it however, stays in stand-by mode, and for some reason the disc tray won't open.

Do you have any suggestions as to what to look into changing. I've got myself the LA Chip, the Ribbon Cable and a Lens cleaning CD. I also have a Digitial Mulimeter (in case I've got to check any fuses).

Any help would be great!

okay now im getting the picture.you have no idea what caused the problem.i would make a bet that the reset ribbon was ripped out and not properly reinstalled.it has to be inserted all the way into its connection or it can cause the problems youre having.its very difficult to insert because it is a flimsy ribbon that has to be put into a tiny connetion with a little force.anyway,take off the ps2 cover.there are tabs on the bottom of the ps2 that pop off and underneath them are srews that you take out.after that slowly take off the cover so you dont rip out the reset ribbon that connects to the cover and ps2 main body.i think the people before you might have ripped it out before.and see if that ribbon is loose.
