Anything Taiyo Yuden for one. From there Verbatim is next and from there you move down the ladder to Maxell. Basicly look for media Made in Japan ( not that Taiwan media is bad but there is a greater chance of buying poor quality media.)

It all depends on your optical drive and the firmware. I have read many posts about Riteks quality, some like it, most don't, but why would you buy Ritek when you can get Taiyo Yuden for a small amount more. It doesn't make sense. Listen to Kivory, buy the Tys and be comforable that you have the best media.

Well, the only reason is because I have some movies that are already on those, so I was wondering if they were good so I wouldn't have to burn them on my Verbs.

@fusionice

i have posted at great lengths about Ritek, do a search and you will see the opinions of MANY members here regarding Ritek media~ i PERSONALLY find RitekG05s to be VERY good, MANY will disagree with me, but this is only from my personal experience with them. i have hundreds of flawless backups using G05s...i don't have any G04s or the R03 riteks or ANY other Ritek media codes, i am just commenting on the G05s which i HAVE used in the past with no problems~ have you tested any recently that you burned in the past? do they still playback fine? i have RitekG05s from almost 3 years ago that still playback just great~ you should check them out and see for your own eyes whether they work well for you or not~

i would naturally recommend you use TY or Verbatim from now on, but, to say Ritek is bad, is not true at all~ i along with many other very experienced and knowledgeable members here use Ritek, even though i have switched to TY and VERBs now, others still use Ritek and swear by it. Ritek is NOT on the same level as TY or Verbs IMO, but are great 2nd tier "budget" media.

anyways, since you say you are using Verbs now, just stick with them, Verbatim is very good media; if something "better" comes along, why not try it and make an informed decision for yourself how they work for you~ :)

Well, the Ritek that I have are only 6 months old and they work fine, but to be safe, I'll burn them onto Verbs. Thanks for the help.

TY or TY/Fuji, Maxell, Verbatim and Sony. The choice is yours to make - it's your call, your money.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

do what you must to feel comfortable with your backups, while it MIGHT not be necessary to rebackup your Ritek data onto Verbs, it's your call~ :) good luck~

MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals Corporation) is the parent company of MKM (Mitsubishi Kagaku Media), which in turn is the parent company of Verbatim, hence the media codes MCC and MKM

@gurnard

see, SOME people agree with me, while SOME do not~ i rate Ritek as #3 in my personal list of Taiyo Yuden=#1 and Verbatim=#2...the G05s i have used HUNDREDS of in the past STILL playback just fine to this day, i actually took the time to check random ones earlier today and they are just fine...mind you they were burned almost 3 years ago~!

so, as people always say, to each their own, but i for one, and now i can include YOU too, speak of Ritek fairly HIGHLY...while i would admit that they are not same level as TY or VERBS; but, they are my 3rd choice of media if for some odd reason i could not obtain any TYs or Verbs~ :) good day to you, i am pleased that SOMEONE finally agreed with me on the Riteks..they aren't ALL as bad as some people make them out to be...made in taiwan too~ :)

LOL catfreak, you even included the "tm" copywrite following the Ritek name..that is very cool~ :) just thought that was neat...

btw, the office depot riteks? are they the G05s in the 8x DVD-R format? or is it some different coding? i have ONLY had experience with the G05s, i can not speak for any other coding which i have never used...just wanted to know before i picked up a few "just for kicks" as you would say~ :) have a good one

 ... I don't know what they are in the -R format .. I only use +R since I have a Ricoh computer burner that isn't multi-format and my LiteOn set top recorders seem to do best with +R Verb Maxell and Sony media ... I got the Office Depot +R discs so my granddaughters won't destroy my originals ... If they kill the cheap +R stuff I don't sweat it ... The discs I bought are R02 4X ...

Thanks for the tip catfreak. I just got back from office depot.They had the 4x 50 packs and the 8x 100 packs. I went with my gut and picked up one of the +8x 100 pack spindles for $28 and they are Ritek-Ro3's! That should keep me busy for a couple of weeks.
