I have an NTSC/J console with messiah3 modchip and am currently in australia. I buy originals here and recently bought a ps2 network adapter and decided to try it out.
My problem is, the Network Access Disc(which i have to use to create a user profile) is PAL... and so i cannot disable my modchip if i wanna use the disc. This results in me getting a DNAS error because i'm on a modchip.
Am i pretty much screwed? or is there work arounds. All my games are originals, just that they're in PAL and the console's NTSC. i know there are DNAS cracks using the disc ID utility. but there is really no point here because i am not running a pirated copy i have an original so even if i extracted the DNAS IDs from the network access disc and run backup.. they would be PAL IDs.
can i use an original disc undetected by using AR2/gameshark etc. so i can just switch my modchip off and soft boot the original copies?
if you have an older version of ps2 then you could try using a system ID changer and change your ps2 ID to a PAL one, doing that you should be able to connect and play your PAL games online. The only problem would be trying to get a valid ID of another system. just make sure you write down the original ID of your system.
that what i did actually.
changed my machine ID to PAL and fired up ratchet and clank3..
got error -880(hardware incompatibality).. thats weird.. i only get -402(modchip)
then i change it again and i passed the DNAS check!
created a profile, login.. status Account Not Found.
thats cause my profile has to be matching my Central Station handle
popped in the network access disc..
to my avail, couldn't get pass the dnas check
error -402
so now.. i'm pretty much back to square one again.
Unless your network access disk is also PAL, you won't be able to use your Central Station handle in Australia anyway, because the NTSC and PAL servers work independantly from each other(which is the reason most games are bound to the continent where they are played, like, say, socom 2, Killzone, Hardware, etc)
Quote: the Network Access Disc(which i have to use to create a user profile) is PAL...
:)
update: i've tried using another pal ID.. and this time i was returned with an error -880 on the network access disc instead of the normal -402. i can pass ratchet and clank 3's dnas with no error. only the network access disc is a bitch. but i had -402 on both disc before getting -880 on ratchet and then to no error.
Ooops, missed that part...sorry... Seeing as you're using an original game, it must be a hardware problem, and since your ps2 is a v6, it might just be too new for the id change to properly work with the network disc. And on that gameshark/ar max question in your original post, those things only change your ps2's DVD region, so that's not an option. I'll have a look around and see what i can do, i've got a v2 NTSC*american* console, changed it's id ages ago, and it works fine, online as well, so it should be possible somehow. i'll keep you posted on this.
